I have reached the 600 mile mark with my bike in less than 3 weeks,, I am REALLY wanting to ride it but if I do it will definately push it past the 600 mile mark easily.
Upon asking the service guy at the dealership he said as long as I bring it in by 1000 miles I would be ok. Is that true,, or for the longevity of the bike and to re-tain the warranty will I be better off just waiting until I get the service before I ride it anymore?
I don't want to screw up the bike and I am also worried about how much of a stickler Suzuki is about the 600 mile mark and honoring their warranty. Any advice on this topic? :crippled:

VERY!! Probably the most Important service ever done.

At the very least get the fluids changed, there will be metal shavings in the oil, this is normal during break in.

The bolts need to be checked, due to "Seating In" some may loosen up.

The tappits may also need to be checked.

Wating till 1,000 should be ok, but I still don't like the oil that's in there

Yeah I guess I will have to try to convince my boss to let me off early one day or come in late,, I have access to a utility trailer so maybe I can trailer it in and drop it off after work,,, just wish the dealerships would stay open till 7:00 pm so that I can get the bike dropped off. Leaving it on a Saturday stinks since it will be there all weekend.

After the 600 mile service,, what is usually recomended for service intervals? Is it like a car 3 months or 3000 miles? Or more frequently?

The 600 mile mark is not an absolute number. Technically it is 1000km (which works out to 621.37 miles) but they converted it and rounded it off for Americans like me who 'don't know for nothin about no metric system'. Going in a little late is better than going in early, because if you go in early the motor is still shedding metal and you will have to do it twice. As long as you get to the dealer between 600 and about 750 miles I wouldn't give it a second thought. But I ALWAYS recommend that this crucial first service be done at the dealer where you bought the bike, so they can check everything from assembly, etc. I also recommend a magnetic oil drain plug be installed at the first service.
The recommended service interval for your LC is 7500 miles for oil and filter. Mine is also 7500 miles under normal use, but I do it every 5000 or so because of two reasons: I ride hard, and I go on a lot of very long trips and don't want to be 1000 miles from home when the service is due. That "every 3000-miles" crap is something Jiffy Lube came up with to sell more oil.

Thanks,,, I will have them install the magnetic drain plug. I will probably have 630 to 640 on it if I drive it to the dealership. So maybe next week I'll put another 50 or so miles on it to get it closer to the 700 mark. Then have it serviced. I have always been an advid believer in frequent oil changes only due to the fact that I worked on a 1984 Monte Carlo SS once that when my brother got it had 110,00 miles on it.
The guy who had it said he always changed the oil at 3 months or 2500 miles,, whichever came first. It blew a head gasket so we had to take the intake off and the inside of that engine was just as clean as if it had been just assembled. That was in 1988 and ever since then I have stuck to that rule with my cars. My engines are really holding up so I just want to make sure my bike does as well. I had a old Dodge van with a 318 in it with 680,000 miles on it with the original motor.
Although todays oil's have been engineered to hold up for longer periods than the older oils,, so a 7500 mile mark is very well within reason today,, but sometimes just for that warm fuzzy feeling I still tend to stick with the old rule of thumb.
I do like that magnetic oil plug idea,, I didn't know they made them for the bikes. I wonder if they make a magnetic strip to go around the oil filter?????
