Hey,

I started riding this past summer on a used CB 250 Nighthawk after taking the motorcycle safety course. I love the CB to death as a first bike but I want something more. Is it too soon to jump to a kat 600? Or is there another bike I should be considering?

Also - Sliders. What are they? Difficult to install? Good investment/Cost?

Thanks,

Grant

either way your gonna have to get used to whatever bike you get. it's a learning curve thing. I started on a gsxr 600 and I don't think it's that bad of a decision although some will disagree. If you don't want to be concerned about too much power look into the gs500. it's faired for good wind resistance and has enough power to keep ya busy. if not then a kat 600 is a fine choice. really up to you.

I say go for the Kat at this point if you want to. It is still much more forgiving than a newer supersport. (GSXR/CBR/etc.) It should still have enough power to keep you happy for awhile. Frame sliders are not made specifically for the Kat but supposedly some can be made to fit.

Go for the GSXR 600 if thats what you want, i went from a full power Aprilia RS 125 to the 600 no probs just remember to be smooth on the throttle in 1st and 2nd and you will be fine... the power only starts getting mad after about 9,000 rpm..

You didn't say how many miles, though the rider course was a great start. If you only got in a few hundred, keep 'er one more year. If it was at least a few thousand, go for it. You're as ready as you'll ever be.

I guess it is a steep learning curve, but I passed my test after about a dozen lessons on an ER-5,then bought a '98 GSXR 600.

The thing I have found is it will only go as fast as I tell it too,I have also made some stupid mistakes and found the bike quite forgiving.

This worked for me personally, but if you think you are going to ride her flat out everywhere,I think more experience is needed.

Happy riding mate,

The katanas have some older technology with the engine and so forth, so they aren't too bad of a starter. Depending on what you want to do, you might want to get the sv650 or gsx600 for the long term.

As long as you stick to the 600 level you should be ok. I had a friend start out on a Ninja 750, it was older and heavier than the new ones, but he did ok, but it was a little hairy every now and then.

Heya coves,

The 600 kat is a good choice as a learning bike and lots of fun, but basically it boils donw to you when you think you are ready w/a couple of k's under ur seat so you so be good...... just remember ur jumping from 250cc -600cc+ big power curve!!! what ever you decide to get.

U r who u r, are you looking for short term or longevity...? what kind of riding and stuff n stuff...? so what ever you choose sport, sport/tourer
GSX-R600, SV650s only you can answer those questions...! and that's what we're here for... " THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE ... "

Ride Safe... have Fun...

I went from a Honda H100 (12bhp) to a Kwak Gpz750 (84bhp?). Very scarey, I wobbled about liked a pissed sailor for the first few 100 miles.
If you do go from the Nighthawk to Gixxer, don't expect to be a Rossi Valentino in 5 mins. All bikes take getting used to, whether going up/down in power, or even from one manufacturers 600 to anothers.
Patience is the key.

i think you should go for the gixxr 6 man not the katana. My cousin bought his katana 600 and was pretty dissapointed compared to a supersport 600. If your lookin for fast then gixxr is the way!
