Hey!
I recently bought a 99 model GSxr600 as an upgrade from my FZR250, as such i am not used to led's and digital displays.
when the ignition is on, and kill switch is also in start position, the oil light and the flashing oil logo are on. when its started these go away
now on my fzr the oil light used to come on if you tried to start it with kickstand down, if kill switch was still off etc.
Is this normal, or is there a problem with something (other than oil levels?), any answers, ideas would be cool.
Cheers

On most bikes the light doesn't go off until proper oil pressure is detected. I can't speak for your bike specifically.

I would say it's normal for your Light/Symbol to show, it does NOT have any oil pressure when the motor isn't turning, therefore it "will" show low oil pressure warning..

All my bikes have displays, all of them, either RED LIGHT & OR Oil Can Symbol.

When the motor's off & key in run position, the Oil Light/Symbol shows "Low Pressure".

You are saying that these messages go away after start up?

Mine come on in the key on position too. They go away after start up too. Who did you buy the GSXR from? When was the last oil change? How many miles you got on her?

I bought privately, 19000 KM i believe last change was at about 15000.

but either everybody's bike has something suss going on, or thats the way its supposed to happen, I got a service manual with her, it tells me how to pull it all apart but not what it means..

so won't hit the panic stations yet =)

It's like a safety feature, same as a car. All the idiot lights come on in the "on" position, to verify that they do work properly. In the running mode all lights should then go out. If it didn't work this way, a light, like the oil light could fail and you would never know the difference, until your motor seized!

+1 @ Dale.

When the motor is not running and the key is turned to the "ON" position, all of the indicators should light up to show that they work. Some go out after a few seconds, others remain on until the motor is running. On my bike, the FI indicator stays on until the motor is running, but other indicators (e.g. the "low fuel" idiot light) come on, then go off again. It's cool to watch ... when I turn the key, the spedo and tacho both swing full scale and then go back to 0. For a second, my bike shows 260 kmh!!! BWAHHHAHAHAHAH!
