Some of you have been posting pics that we (the mods) feel are not appropriate for the forum. Some people like to log on during their breaks at work and check out the newest posts. THEY ARE TRUSTING THIER FELLOW FORUM MEMBERS TO FOLLOW THE RULES.

Some people think it's no big deal to post a link to a porn site, and then have the gall e-mail me saying, "Man, you need to lighten up."

No, what needs to happen is that people need to READ THE FORUM RULES and FOLLOW THEM.

I smell a banning folks. I'm serious.

I'm sitting here, right now, trying to decide whether or not to ban the last poster that did this. I'm currently leaning 90% towards a temporary ban. There are porn sites on the web that cater to this type of material. This ain't one of them.

Any discussion on where this misunderstanding (of the rules) arises from is welcome.

In response to an e-mail I got from a member, I banned him for 10 days.

He thought it was okay to chastise me for loooking at the 'net while I'm at work. Unless they hire him as my boss, it's none of his business.

IT IS his business to follow the freaking rules, though.

Meat Man...
Why stop at 10 days. I would have zero tolerance for not only his breaking the rules, but his inability to own up to it.

Ban him indefinitely is what I say.

If this member agrees and accepts fault, why ban them indefinitely?

This person needs to read the rules and then decide on whether or not they can follow them.

Based on that, then they should be banned or allowed to stay.

I don't like banning, but it's like traffic tickets . . . necessary evil.

If he had admitted it . . . or just let it be . . . I wouldn't have thought ill o fhim or started this thread, but he chose to act like he was a hall monitor and question what I do at work. Not smart.

With the exception of how I treated Madura (If you're out there, buddy, please come back. I apologize.), I don't feel that I have ever abused the mod powers. I don't question the how/where/when of other people using the forum, and I assume that some may be at work or have their 6-year old sitting there with them.

His words were disturbing, and there was no smilie to indicate that he was joking.

wow...im glad i didnt take my "not being on the net at work" post any further than i did. i was just joking at the time anyway.

i dont know the rest of the story on this, so I am not going to speculate on that or your reasons for banning. Ive been a moderator for a car forum for a few years and understand the decisions you have to make.

I think we could all try to be a little concious of where people are when they read these boards. THough most of us know the rest of us, there are a lot or guests and new members here to research information on Suzuki's, and not get involved in bs back and forth and pics of scantily clad women (or men for the ladies out there). Of course, most of that goes on in the OFF TOPIC forum, so usually guests and such should know not to go in there without expecting OFF TOPIC type material.

Just follow the rules everybody! They are here to keep this a friendly environment for EVERYONE. We don't like banning anyone that we don't have to, but unless the content starts to clean up, I see more coming.

Don't post anything that you wouldn't mind your kids and parents seeing.

. . . and in Off Topic I see no problem with it . . . provided a NSFW is posted.

We all forget, so it's not like a zero-tolerance thing, but after I had JUST posted about this type of thing twice, I didn't expect to have someone call me on the carpet about where/when I post.

Am I at work? You're GD right I am. That's between me and the boss. If they thought I was screwing around, they'd have a talk with me. As it is, they think I'm doing a fine job (at least that's what they tell me during evaluations), and when they walk up and I'm posting, I just minimize and address whatever they need. It's that simple. However, if they walk up and there's a boob on the screen, or a butt . . . well, then we have a totally different violation of work policies.

Surfing the net while at work: Slap on the wrist oral reprimand
Surfing "porn" (or perceived porn) on the net while at work: Immediate dismissal. No questions asked. They don't care that I looked at a post that wasn't labeled NSFW.

The 'banned one' wanted me to "lighten up." I wonder if he'll loan me my house payment while I look for a new job after I get fired for clicking on something contained within his post?

Mark, I have great respect for what you, Regina, Freakinout, Louis and Uncle Bob do for this forum.

I have been asked by some members of an organisation which I belong to to create a discussion forum. I have refused up until now - although I could have the forum up and running in a few days, I simply don't have the hours per day needed to administer and moderate a forum ...

Again, keep up the good work. And don't get down on yourself when you get 'lip' from a noobie or a smarta$$ - They are like weeds: As soon as you get rid of one, 3 more pop up...

I'm sure trying to come up with a smartazz remark for Landry, but I got nothing. Maybe later.

i think alot more people post from work than most younger folks realize. i'm in IT and except for the occassional network/workstation meltdown i'm pretty much chained to my desk with nothing to do (we won't discuss my voodoo doll collection).
alot of us older folks have families and spend all our home hours with our kids. i don't have time for the 'net when i'm at home.

just my 2cents.

I feel like a dummy for asking, but what does NSFW stand for?
