So, I went on a "poker-run" ride this weekend with a local motorcycle club called the Motomutz. I met a lot of other girl-riders which was very cool for me! One of the girls told me about this advanced rider course that is offered locally and I'm thinking that I want to check it out. They happen to have a "women-only" day that'd be pretty cool.

It's different that the experienced rider course offered by the state, this is a course that is taught by racers that teach you how to reeeally ride through the corners, etc. They will actually critique your riding style, etc and the more times you go back, the more they will help you fine-tune your riding.

Here's a link that talks about the day...

I'm a little nervous to sign up though for a couple reasons. One, I'm nervous that I'm not ready for this type of "advanced" course. Two, I'm nervous that I'll crash and mess up my bike. I'm trying to get over those feelings and just sign up because I'm sure that it would be good for me...

This is my second full season of riding, I've only got about 3000 miles of riding under my belt at this time. I AM very comfortable on my SV, but I want to improve all my skills the fastest way possible.

My boyfriend, his brother, and his mom and dad are all going to be taking this class on May 8th, so I may go hang out and see how it works out for them.

Around here, the ERC is mainly a refresher course : emergency braking, swerving, slow riding, increasing radius turns, decreasing radius turns, tight turns at very low speed, and my personal favorite (although very scaring at first) running over obstacles they teach how to run over when swerving or braking is not an option. They make "jump" a 4x4 pice of lumber, in a safe way for bothe the bike and the rider).

Yeah, Louis, we have the same experience rider course here, with more practice on swerving/braking, etc. But, my understanding is that this is different, while it's not a "race", it is teaching you how to ride corners, etc. I don't think it's concentrating on the swerving/braking stuff.

Not sure though! :)

i would be a little worried about my bike in that Adv. course too...as for the ERC....it would be cool to do the things we did in the MSF course, but with my own bike.

ive done some of the stopping, figure 8, swerve....on my bike just for practice/fun.

I went back to the lot I took the MSF at and tried some of hte figure-8's and stuff.

No go on the Bandit. Couldn't do it. It doesn't really bother me, though. If my biggest worry is "not being able to do a figure-8 in the space of three or four parking spaces" I'm not going to get upset.

rofl i dont think my gsxr can do those little figure 8s like at 5 mph. The Adv course seems kind of dumb.... might as well just take a raceing course.... U shouln't crash ull only crash if u push ur self to hard.... or some one runs in to you hehe

I wouldn't sweat it. Just go with an open mind and be ready to learn something. It doesn't look like a real racetrack, so just be ready to concentrate and have fun. Ask a lot of questions, especially ask the racers regarding suspension set-up and body position, etc.

In Germany, they organise a "girls only" track day once per year. There is a separate group for the guys, although the two groups are never on the track at the same time.

@landry: You should be able to do circles and 8's with your bandit. I can do them with my 1400 - no problem. I've even watched people do them with a cruiser - it can be done. If you can't do it, you need to practice some more.

@ZukiGirl: Go get 'em girl! Sign up! You can do it!

I'm signed up for my next course on May 20th. The agenda is (translated from German)

Morning
- Theory "Passive Security"
- Gymnastics on the bike (standing on the pegs, standing on the seat while moving, riding side-sattle, etc.)
- Giant Slalom with Countersteering and Bodysteering
- Circles / Figure-8 (changing the lean angle)
- Braking from high speeds

Afternoon
- Theory "Curves"
- Curve practice on a round course with video
- Discussion and review of the video
- Closing discussion

This should be fun

I don't doubt that the bike will do it. It's jsut that I can't. I'm not really sure I'm into that at the moment. :|
