Hi there..

I recently aquired a US import TL1000..
It went for it's first MOT (For me, anyway) last week and failed on a few little points. Biggest one was the US headlamp..
Instead of buying a replacement unit, I was told it'd be possible to mask up the light for the MOT, just like on a car. Unfortunately I've no idea where/what to cover to save blinding the oncoming traffic.. :(

Anyone on here have any ideas..?
I've tried a quick search but didn't really come up trumps.

Thanks

K

Sorry.. I'll try to clarify..

I'm based in the UK and have a US Imported TL.

This means that the headlamp has a section of light that aims over to the right slightly, in order to illuminate the sidewalk & kerb etc.
Unfortunately it means that over here, it simply glares the oncoming traffic. The UK spec glass is 'reversed' basically to illuminate to the left slightly.

In order to pass the MOT you can cover a section of light with tape, like you would on a car to drive on the continent. Only I'm not sure how..and was looking for alternative to sourcing a 2nd hand UK light.

Thanks

I get it now. Thanks for the additional info.

Have you checked your local Suzuki dealer? Otherwise, I don't know.

I wasn't aware that the headlamp in the US were that way. They are not like that in Canada. My GPz has a special hole for a special light bulb (in the headlight assembly) for the UK version (so no bulb in mine) but I don't remember what that additional bulb is for.

I also mentioned this in one of the "eBay Import" threads - when importing bikes from other countries, you need to consider the costs of modifying them for the local laws.

US cars and bikes tend to throw alot of light onto the street, but european laws are very strict about how much light can be shining into the eyes of cars coming the other way. In Germany, for example, the headlights are measured and must fit a specific angle. In the UK, this angle must be reversed, since cars are coming at you on the right side, not the left.

Huh?? Then why do we get all the crappy headlights over here??? Ya'll had the HIDs LONG before us!! The DOT stops all the good stuff from coming over here.
