Am I the only one stupid enough to put a foot down when the front tire skids out? I hit some sand (again  ) in a sharp right-hander this weekend. As the front tire started to skid out (with soudns effects: "sssshhhh"), I put my right foot down.

Owie! That smarts!

(P.S. I believe that the only thing putting my foot down does is increase my chances that I'll strangle myself on what's left of it after the wreck, 'cause it'll probably be dislocated and swung up around my puny neck, choking off my wind pipe.)

Anyone else as dumb as me, or am I alone in this department?

No, brother, I did it on a slow U-turn right after I had gotten my bike. I was lucky in that I was able to avoid dropping her. BTW, I that I had a hernia for the next few days...yeah a little soreness in the groin, if ya know what I mean.

I've done it too! :x Slow U-turn (same as LayinLo). There have also been occassions where, if I'm startled enough I THINK about it - to the point where I will actually almost take my foot off the peg - but catch myself at the last minute. It's such a bad habit!

I also almost did it once before when I thought I was going into a tank-slapper (but didn't - thank God!). DUMB, DUMB, DUMB! :?'

[EDIT: I forgot to type "almost" in the 2nd paragraph - It was one of my moments where I thought about it, but my foot didn't actually touch the ground, before I realized what I was doing. But can you imagine what would have happened if it did???? ]

Yeh, I don't know, I guess it depends on the situation. I was making a left turn through an
intersection the other day and must have hit some gravel or something as the front wheel started
to slide out. Before I could even realize what was happening, my left foot hit the pavement hard,
but I honestly think I would have gone down if that hadn't happened. My toes were a bit sore
that evening (from being jammed forward in my boot), but aside from that it wasn't too bad.

Into the sharp curve I go, and look at this lady on the side of road and I'm thinking "Stay there!"...but she doesn't...she steps in front of the bike...panic braking happens, front wheel locked up, sliding out from under me...I put my feet down and it gets ripped backwards...OOuuuch! that hurt!
Fortunately, it was slow speed -10mph maybe, but it still hurt.
