I was on my way to Ventura, so I had to get on the 101. I roll up to the on-ramp (traffic is slow as usual) and this crazy looking dude standing on the side of the on-ramp. It was then I noticed the swarm: a bunch of ticked-off bees. I flipped the face shield down the remaining two notches (hot as blazes this weekend) scrunched my shoulders to close up my bare neck and went for it. Them little buggers feel like rocks being thrown at you! I hit the freeway and contemplated getting back off just make sure I didn't have any unwanted hitch hikers. I thought better of it and continued my way, thankful I had my stuff on even if it meant sweating my butt off.

yup.

I guess he was a beekeeper called out to tame the swarm. You know how they wear those big hats and nets and stuff? Standing on an on-ramp with a swarm around him made him pretty crazy-looking in my book.

Amazing how helpful that gear is isn't it....even during hot days! On the freeway, I often get a little rock every now & then across the fingers while wearing gloves & it hurts. I can only imagine what it would feel like w/o 'em.

Yep. The crap that has hit my faceshield at highway speeds has been nasty at times. Really big juicy bugs aren't uncommon at dusk. I can't imagine the feeling of this stuff on guys wearing shorts, tank tops and no helmets - but they don't really do too much riding anyway, just short hops to bars to do burnouts...
