I own one, mine's a 1990. i am the first & third owner of the Kat.

Right now I'm doing some work on it, replaced the oem mirrors & turn signals, also removed the pin-striping from the plastic part of the bike but I'm leaving the tank as is.

It looks like they removed the full fairing, put on a bikini fairing and called it a Bandit in the later years. I had a 1983 GSX 750 with the same family of motor. My 2001 Bandit 1200S has the same family of motor.
