I've been riding for about 3 weeks now. I've put 1200miles on the bike. I love riding it i go out for no reason and just ride, but even now the muscle below my thumb on my palm is always sore after riding for at least 10mins. When i stop at lights and whatnot i massage it and keep going. Its worst on the freeway.Im constantly having to open my hand and stretch my thumb.

Does anyone else get this? I got rid of the stock grips and put GELS on.It helped but hand still hurts. Its only my RIGHT hand not my left. Any suggestions? Besides stop riding so much :)

Don't squeeze the grip so hard. Relax the mucsles when you're just cruising and the hurting should get better, if not go away all together. Just relax, riding is supposed to be fun, not painful.

Maybe you should visit the doctor or go to the grocery store for some over the counter Moltrin that should help you alot because what you have sounds like a muscular joint problem

Not that you cant guess it now :) hmm guess maybe i'll have to deal with it or just ask a doctor.Though i dont wanna pay $700 for 1 visit and 5mins...its rediculous.

Are you wearing gloves? Good gloves distribute the load and offer obvious protection.

My solution, other than strength that comes with miles, is to relax the inside two fingers, then the outside two intermittently. Consciously work to relieve pressure on that area.

I got my new GSXR 600 about a week ago, and my hands f***ing hurt across the open area between my palm and my pinky. I also bought a new pair of gloves with the new bike(maybe that was part of it). Half the time on longer trips my fingers could go numb. I think it is just the new riding position, kinda like a new pair of shoes you get a new set of blisters. I've noticed that the numbness is less. I also try positioning my throttle hand at different angles or hugging the tank to change the position. I loosened the clutch tension some too(I live in a city and I hate the clutch after red light after red light). My guess is some muscular trouble might be a factor. I play guitar, piano and a lot of video games, so maybe I have stiff joints(jesus....arthritus at 20 years old  ) Maybe this will help and I now feel a little better knowing I'm not the only one with riding pains.

well i found a solution to the problem. I went to my chiropractor...my thumb was out of socket. LOL ...he poped it back (OUCH!!) It doesnt hurt NEARLY AS MUCH...in fact now its as much as my left hand and thats just for having my weight mostly forward. I try sitting up some and using my legs to grip the tank alittle so i can relieve some pressure. Then my legs get tired lol . Oh well. Maybe i need more time.

//I disagree in the strongest of terms.

//Better gloves and a lighter, though still firm (like a firm handshake) grip will fix it. Sounds like a cramp to me.

//Motrin, like most NSAIDs, is more trouble than it's worth. If the pain is slight enough that motrin will deal with it, just live with the pain. If the pain is something that needs treated, treat it with something that's a heavier hitter than motrin. (tylenol is another drug to stay away from).

I had this twice and for different reasons each time. The first time was because my grips were too fat so when I wore my heavier gloves I was squeezing to hard because it felt like I couldn't hold on to the really fat grip.

The second time was due to some shoddy stitching in my gloves. There was a little ball of leather and stitching right where that part of my hand came into contact with the grip. Both have been resolved and it has never happened since.

I was searching the internet for exactly the same pain as explained by the author of this post. I have a lot of pain in my left "clutch" hand and I am not quite sure what to do about it. The pain is at the palm right below the thumb. Did the chiropractic visit yield a successful result? I am either going to give that a try or go and have it x-rayed. My wife seems to think it could be a small fracture but there hasn't been anything that I would have done to support a fracture. I have broken several bones throughout the past 40 years of my life and I can tell you exactly how when and where each one of them had occurred. The only thing that supports the fracture in this case is the pain. I have been riding for years and have never experienced this type of pain before. If you can let me know whether or not the chiropractic method word that would be awesome! Thanks...

I seriously doubt you will hear anything as the last post was 12 years ago. The best option would be to visit the doctor. Having said that some of the Ducati clutches can be very heavy and someone on one of the forums I am on here in Au decided to fit a larger slave cylinder to their Ducati.

good luck

I have a similar pain when I ride a LOT.
I think it is a strained muscle or tendon.
NOT holding the clutch in through long stop lights helps some.

If you can find a "hand specialist" they might be able to identify the problem without any expensive tests.

I had some pain after my first ride of the season two weeks ago. I think this was mostly due to using the muscles differently than I have over the past (winter) months, plus the vibration of the bars (my first ride was about 100 miles on twisty mountain roads).

If it persists, see a doctor. If it goes away after 3 days, forget about it and enjoy the ride.

I was having the same type of problem. I bought something I call a "wrist rest". It is a gizmo that fits onto the grip with a pad extending from the grip on which I rest my wrist. I hardly need to apply pressure on the bars an can use my wrist to apply throttle.

It works for me.
