I'm starting to shop around for a Boulevard C50. There are five dealers within 50 miles, and I have no problem shopping them all if need be. So far, they're all being pretty stuck up about the whole "new bike, full retail" attitude. I'm playing off each other and getting pretty much nowhere. I've gone from trading my GZ250 to a straight cash deal and still they won't budge.

Of course, they are all more than willing to drop the '04 Volusia 800 to around $6000. But they won't move on the C50s.

Any ideas to try and help?

Dealers won't budge on an '05 (you are looking at an '05, right?) for just about any street model. Dirt bikes and Quads they usually have deals on, but not the street stuff.

You might have to go out of state to find someone who will work with you. Either pony up the dough now or wait a bit until there are some leftovers.

It is NOTHING like buying a car.

Nut's correct. I called some ealerships and tried to chew them down to no avail. I took the lowest price I had and called around and they would match it (reluctantly), but they wouldn't beat it.

Bikes are bug toys for people with disposable income, kind of like big-screen tv's or something. For that reason, I suspect they won't budge. They know they've got the goods, and they know we need 'em!

Best bet: call around, know the MSRP, get your own financing, and wait until the prices start to drop this winter.

Some dealers budge, my dealer in Harrodsburg Ky. sold me the first C50 he got for $6095, and the MSRP is $6799, so I saved $704 off sticker - and the dealer adds nothing on top the price except sales tax and actual registration cost. A search on Cycletrader.com will show you that some dealers advertise lower prices, you'll find Lee's in Harrodsburg Ky. sells all of their C50s for $6095 (the two-tone model). They also sell the '04 GSX-R 750 for $8695 if you want to go faster...

There are several tactics to saving some $$$ when buying high-tag items (cars, bikes, appliances, etc.):

1) Wait till the end of the month, when the dealers need to meet their quotas. They are often more open to deals in the last days of the month.

2) Wait until fall or early winter to buy a new bike - the dealers will try to get them out of the showroom before winter hits (and they have to store them).

3) Get informed - you can probably find most information (dealer cost, msrp, etc.) over the internet. The dealer will probably give you a good deal on the bike if you also buy some accessories (top case) and/or gear (clothing / helmet).

Good Luck ... and ride safe!

Adding on to that I'd be shopping and looking real hard and keeping touch with a salesman during those last 2 weeks, just saying your not sure your ready or your concerned about the price and then on that last day of the month perferably in mid to late afternoon that go back in and say your ready to deal. If they were having a slow month you've got that on your side, if that sales person is having a slow month and you've also got that on your side. Buying off the floor should also give you some leverage too. And if they don't meet your price then, thank them and leave.

Be prepared to walk away. Leave a card with your number and offer if you can. They're often more ready to sell than they let on.

Thanks for all of the helpful tips.

Another question though...

Over on CycleTrader.com I came across an offer (several actually) for Honda East of Toledo. They are offering the two tone Boulevard C50 for $5825. With freight that comes to "$6188 delivered". (And for those wondering, they had several listings for the C50 Black at $5699.)

Has anyone dealt with them at all? Are they selling damaged bikes? Or do they just really want to sell alot?

Anyone?

I'm alwayw weary of super low prices but you'd have to check them out. Worst things is they do the bait and swtich and try to upsell you to something that actually have instock. But that's when the fun and games begin!!! I hate salesman so they deserve to be fucked with at all opps. :)

Actually, I called and talked to them. They claim the bikes to be new, warrantied and in excellent condition. Salesman (Ed) was very friendly and answered all of my questions without hesitation.

As it happens, my local dealer was willing to match their delivered price on a Black C50. But I decided on a Blue/Gray '04 VL800. The pics will be up once I take delivery mid-week.
