A few years back I sold my Yamaha Maxim 750, and have regretted it ever since. I am in the market for a new Intruder 800, and hope to have it by my birthday (37th). I am a newbie to this forum, but not to bikes. I just wanted to say Hi to you all and I will be around a bit gleaning some info.

But my first and biggest task is to convince my wife that I absolutely have to have this bike! Not gonna be easy I know! I hope to meet some of you on the road in the VERY near future. Wish me luck on the wife thing. See ya 'round the boards!

She'll be convinced just as soon as you get her on the back (properly attired, of course).

Are you dead set on a cruiser? Keep in mind that there is a vast array of bike configurations out there in between race-replica and ape-hanging chopper. You might find a little more performance and handling flips your switch.

Oh, I'm definitely a cruiser type. Motorcycles are dangerous enough without zipping along at 120+ MPH. I like the laid-back, out-for-a-ride-on-a-sunny-day kind of cruising 8) . There are so many nice scenic roads in this part of NY, and a lot of them have been re-surfaced over the past few months . As for the wife, she'll NEVER get on a bike at all. She is terrified of them, which makes my job of convincing her that much harder. But, I'll keep at it until she gets so sick of me talking about it, that she gives in! :twisted: Until such time, keep the rubber side down!

My wife was tough to convince too. Remind her she doesn't have to ride with you. But when she sees how much fun you're having, and how you enjoy it, she just might come around. Then again maybe not.

Actually, it's about handling more than anything, as well as comfort. Many people find themselves with backackes on cruisers because of the jam-it-up-your-spine posture. And most who experience the superior handling of a sport-touring type bike never look back. You feel like you're riding a brick if you get back on a cruiser.

But hey, whatever!

Maybe I can be of assistance. By you saying that you will have to convince her leads me to believe that she probably will say no. Even if she is a good woman and loves you dearly, she probably will find every reason under the sun for you to not get one; however, stay a good husband and express your passion for a motorcycle. Now if she is like most wives I have found..the words coming out maybe not really be addressing her concerns. This means listen closely to what she is saying. Hear what she is saying and not just literally.

Heck I remember when I wanted one I came home with a dozen roses saying, "Can we talk?" It still took me a couple months.

The biggest no no I would say..is never get negative. Even if she bites your head off..stay on track.

Well, I found out why she is sayng "No". It is the house. She wants a new kitchen and dining room! :roll: Okay, I can do that... no biggie. Yeah, I want the bike now, but if I have to wait until next spring, well then I'll have to wait. :x But I did tell her that If I'm building her a new kitchen and dining room, I'm getting a brand-spankin' new 2005 Intruder 800.

But I gotta know..what did she say when you added..."We can do that." Did she agree? That's a Yes. Even if she didn't say anything...I would treat that as a yes. How did she respond?

Sounds like you are there. Quick note here. When she's in the shower..rush and grab a towel and put it in the dryer. It'll get nice and warm. Then greet her as she comes out and wrap it around her. That's the romantic part. And then say, "I just want to thank you for your support on the motorcycle." :lol:

Dear Mrs Brimauster

It is our expert opinion that your husband will greatly benefit from the acquisition of a motorcycle. It is a proven fact that bikers makes better lovers and spouses. This will allow him to expand on his already extraordinary culture and abilities.

Most muscles used on motorbikes are the same used in housework so his riding will improve the effectiveness of his regular housecleaning and the smells he will now sense on the road will make him a better cook.

BTW getting a bike for yourself will also make you more attractive to other men.

I just found out today that I got approved to move in a nice new 2 story 3 bedroom house!!! . The wife really wanted to move. So I said we can if I can get my bike in November.
