Recently my university moved to S.F. and I am now faced with a 45 minute commute each way. I have tried traditional backpacks and biker type bags, but both seem to cause back pain. Anyone have a tank bag prefrence?

Also, I heard tank bags over time scratch the paint. Is that true? Solutions...?

I absolutely love my tank bag!! Unfortuately I can't for the life of me remember the brand at this moment.

It's a magnetic bag, which I think is much more convenient than one that uses straps, and may also be easier on the paint job...

Just got a Nelson Rigg M590 magnetic tank bag. Can't tell you anything about paint wear yet but I love the bag. Removable map pocket, expands 3" extra, handle for easy carrying.
The bottom of it is made of a spongy almost neoprene type material. The 6 magnets are very strong (they'll pinch your finger if you get between them!) and fold/stick together on the bottom neatly when not in use

NewEnough has them for $44, eBay is about the same.

New Enough it will have to be. The local shop only had a few bags, none of which were nelson rigg.
newenough.com is a great place. Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

and they are located like 15 miles from me. So I have extra love for them. I even get to try on my gear before I take off with it.
