My first choice was a Bandit 600, but they arnt any made in 2004 (I was told by a rep the last year was 2003, and I really dont want a used bike).

So, I would have to get one off of cycletrader and hope it arrives in good shape.

Or I can pay about 3k more and get a GSXr600 from a local shop (still probably used not sure, but at least its inspected).

My riding level is pretty novice, but make a bike recommendation.

Have you considered a Katana 600 or a Suzuki SV650? As a novice rider, most here would not recommend a GSXR. Also look at the Kawasaki EX500 and Suzuki GS500.

Have you called around to see if another Suzuki dealer has a new 2003 Bandit 600 sitting around? There may still be new, never used 2003s available.

I know a good number of riders who love their Bandits. The Bandit is a real-world bike that won't kick your butt and handles well. It's comfortable enough to take out of state for the weekend, and the aftermarket is strong both for performance and accessories.

As for buying a new bike, it's not what it's cracked up to be. You take the financial hit with depreciation, and you'll likely have a booboo within a few years that'll ding it up anyway. Look for a responsibly ridden bike and you'll be in good shape.

The GSXR is not for the new rider. The Katana would be better if you insist on a sport bike.

I ran the numbers with my insurance company. I was amazed that I can insure a Bandit 600 cheaper than a SV-650. It seems that all they look at is CCs. Go figure.
The dealer that has the 600 Bandit is Kawasaki Suzuki of Durham. The Kawasaki sight can lead you to them.

Maybe a Ninja 500?
