Battery charger quick connect, and battery tender

381 Views 9 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Easy Rider
Hello, been a long winter, bnut here we are on the cusp of summer riding here in the Northeast. My bike, a Yamaha V-Star 1100 custom does not have a battery tender quick connect. Can anyone recommend a quick connect that is reliable and works with my bike? Also, what is a good battery tender for my bike and my wife's Harley Super Low? Thank you for any and all recommendations!!

You can't go wrong with the Battery Tender brand.
But there are other good ones too.
Try a battery store or auto parts place.

Most of them come WITH the pigtail that you are talking about.
If not, that can be had from an auto parts store too.......but your tender must be equipped for it.
Yes, yes a pig tail with the plug adapter. Do you need a specific one for a specific bike, or are they universal?? Also, is there a special way to attach the pig tail? We stored our bikes in a shed all winter, through the horrible 4 day blizzard we had up here in Buffalo. Do you think the bikes will start??

They are universal. Available at any auto parts store.
Often called an SAE battery connector.

You just need to be sure to get the positive and negative connections on the right battery posts........
and mount it in a place and in a way that it won't get pinched and short out.
Plastic zip tires are useful for that.

To a point, cold is actually good for battery life.
It will be a toss up as to whether or not they have survived the storage time.
I was just looking, the SAE pig tail has a rather large ring. The battery terminal is like a small block with a bolt through it. How does that work? Am I looking at it wrong?

What exactly are you looking at ?

You take the bolt OUT and then put it back through the ring and the cable terminal that was already there.
Ok, I get it now. So if my battery is dead, will a battery tender get it back up to snuff? I just bought the battery last year, beand spanking new.

Maybe.
If you get a tender with a capacity of 2 amps or more there is a better chance.

BUT.....it depends on HOW dead it IS......and WHY.
Sometimes new batteries just fail and nothing can bring them back.

So I am looking at these Battery Tender brand float chargers. I think I will go with that. I have to ask, are all batteries able to use a 12 volt tender? Is that standard? Can you tell I really have no idea about this stuff???LOL

Good plan.
Yes, standard on all common vehicles made in the past 50 years or so.
Exceptions are diesel trucks, farm tractors and golf carts.
