so far it looks like the only thing remotely close to a small sporty shield that I guess looks ok is the national cycle street shield. Not a fan of the oversized large windshields or any windshields for that matter, but the wind can be a pain...am considering one myself

I have the memphis shades alleycat. It's one of three of the line they call thier Sportshields. It includes the alleycat, bigshot and one other that is the smallest of the three. I think they fit the lines of the M50 better then any others I've seen.
Here is mine.

I'm pretty sure the hellcat is the smaller one you are referring to. That is what im looking into getting. I havent been in any rush to get a windshield, but i started noticing marks on my tank from gravel or something on the (highway obviously) so I want to stop that.. funny thing is im in a t-shirt 90% of the time and i never feel anything hit me.

I'm fighting it myself. I bought the M50 because i like the lines of the bike and didn't want a windshield, but after riding my Father in Laws HD FXR with one on, i definitely see why people have them.....

I got it and I like it.
I'd go with no shield forever if i could... but I'm starting to see marks on my tank from gravel from trucks. Also on windy days the wind on my chest gets annoying after an hour or so on a highway. The hellcat looked the most sporty out of all the windshields I saw, so it looks like the best bet for me.

Yeah, I like it for longer highway rides but if I know I'm just going to be cruising around the city I just pop it off. I can probably go without one but once you try riding with it on and then off you can notice a difference.

the hellcat and alleycat are almost the same lines, the difference being that the hellcat is a bar mount, and the alley cat is a fork mount. Depends on your preference there. I think the alley cat looks more like its supposed to be there, but the hellcat being a bar mount gives you better adjustability.

I have the gradiant blue alley cat on my 06 blue, and it really looks like it belongs.

You gotta go with the Memphis Shades "Big Shot." It's bigger than the other sport windshields (like the Alley Cat and Pop Top), so you get optimal coverage...but it's still very slim and sporty. I have a red '05 M50, so I got the one with red ruby tint at the bottom. It looks awesome! Easy to mount...if you get it, use the mounting holes that mount it at a slant (not straight up vertical). That way, you get the least buffeting, the best noise reduction, and the coolest look. Good luck!

I sent an email to memphis & they said the solar had a bit of a tint to it, the clear is completely clear. I ordered the solar so we'll see when I get it in a couple of days.
