Sometimes when i switch the killswitch to RUN, the bike won't start, so i have to flip it back and forth a couple times and THEN it seems the "run" setting registers.

And sometimes my bike dies when i start it and shift it into 1st. Yes, clutch is in, and the bike isn't jerking. To avoid this on a fresh start, i switch into 2nd from neutral and downshift into 1st.

I have the same problem did you ever figure it out?
What EXACTLY are your symptoms?
His were somewhat unique.

The basic problem of having the engine die when put into gear is the side stand safety switch.
They can fail totally or become intermittant.
Sometimes the switch is just loose on it's mount.

it doesnt sound like you have the same symptoms as he does or you wouldnt have to push start it. since he gave a method to bypass the error condition. so is the problem the bike wont ever start from the thumb button w/o jiggling the thumb kill ( problem 1 he described) or it dies when you shift into 1st from neutral but not from second (second problem)

please describe the symptoms you are experiencing. and what you have tried doing to resolve the problem.
when you push start it what gear are you in?

if it push starts then the kickstand safety switch is probably not the issue, the bike shouldn't ever start if it thinks the kickstand is down while the bike in gear.
the clutch safety is more than likely the problem. since once the bike is running the clutch safety is basically bypassed. its relatively easy to clean and test the connections on both.

okay well i can start it in neutral but once i try to shift into first it doesn't work but if i push it in neutral and shift into second or first it will usually catch and can shift freely once it first initially gets out of neutral. Have you heard of this? but i can just drop the clutch once its in first and then just start it back up so i dont have to go into neutral once i park it somewhere.

Details are important.
What exactly do you mean by "it doesn't work" ?

Do you mean that it won't GO into first.......or that it goes in gear but the bike lurches ahead and bogs down.......or that it immediatley just goes dead ??

It is beginning to sound like your clutch is dragging and the bike is just dying because the idle isn't high enough.......or you aren't using the choke when cold........or the clutch cable has too much slack in it.

At first your description sounded like the side stand safety.......but not I'm not so sure.

P.S. It is better to NOT park it in neutral anyway.
Leaving it in gear is kind of like a parking brake.
