Personally, I would try to talk him out of it. Children unter 10 are not prepared (physically or mentally) to control a motorised vehicle.

Start with a bicycle, then when your child has learned how to ride (balance, etc), then maybe look into getting an electric bike. I would stay away from anything with a motor until your child is old enough to respect it and repair it (around 12 years old).

Just my $0.02...

That is pretty young, but those tiny dirtbikes only have one gear and don't go any faster than a bicycle. There really aren't many choices, so you just don't want to go too big.

The most important thing, however, is not the bike. Get him a PROPERLY FITTING helmet, padded clothes, boots and gloves. He'll be fine. Kids that age do far more dangerous things than buzzing around a track on a bike. How tall are the trees in your yard?

I have 2 Boys ages 4 and 2. I purchased a leftover 2003 JR50 for my sons 4th birthday. He started riding it a week before his birthday so technically he was still 3 years old! You can purchase a training wheel system for the bike on ebay for around 45 dollars. He is very skilled at riding it and has so much fun. I think it is fine for a 4 year old to learn control of a motorcycle as at the early ages they learn things much quicker than when they get older and have fear to slow the learning curve. My son has full control of the bike and it makes me very proud of him.

Go on Suzuki's website and look up JR50. I purchased mine for around 900 dollars!

bike for 6yr old

Well, one of the guys that rides in our area is an ex-racer and would probably agree that a 50 is perfect. You could go "pocket rocket", but it's a bit much for a 6 year old to handle. A 50cc dirt bike is about perfect for a younger member to start on. It will help them learn the mechanics of shifting without confusing them with a clutch.

Find a bike that is small enough for the child to handle. There are many 50cc dirtbikes around built for children of different ages. Way back when I was that young, we rode the pullstart minibikes. I would consdier spending time with a 6 year old out riding in the dirt to be far better than having the kid hide in his room with a Playstation. 8)

XR-50. They do come with training wheels and if the kid doesn't like it that model has the most / best modification adaptability so that adults can ride them and have fun. If the kid is tall enough then y'all could do the lift mods anyhow and give father and son even more bonding time

Here is a cut and paste from Travis Pastrana's website.

Travis Pastrana-
How did a 17-year old kid become the world's best freerider? For Travis Pastrana, he started at age of four with a one-speed Honda Z-50....

I just spoke with a friend who has a son who is now 8 and races, he said his boy started on a suzuki 50 with modified training wheels at age 21 months! He was riding on his own by age 3 with no training wheels!

yeah a 50 would be the way to go. Theres a trottle adjustment screw so you can limit there speed and adjust it when needed, also training wheels and stuff.. 6 years old is kinda pushin it though. If it was me, Id wait another couple years. Depends on the kids though, I mean if hes riding bike all over, he might be ready, but if hes fallin off his bike every other day, Id wait.
