Here's another newbie question. Is there any significance to the wave I've been getting from bikers that pass me on the road? I mean that left arm pointing down low wave. Does it have a special meaning or is it just the way you have to wave on a bike because to lift your arm up the wind would pull your arm back?

Yup, it's the cool, "I'm mister casual" wave. I prefer to rotate my left hand out horizontal while keeping the palm in contact with the bar end. Just laziness, I suppose.

As long as you wave, it's all good.

I like the wave. It is friendly and acknowledging that I see you.
In the past, riders would wave more often than now.

I wave, but not all wave back (50/50). So what is the deal?

Maybe the riding fab has brought people to bikes that are not meant to be on bikes. :?

Nope. I ride an Intruder.

That sucks that they would say that about sportbike riders. And the finger is not right. Although some do act like monkeys.
OK, it is cool to do wheelees, but in full traffic!
Going fast is fun, but 125+ through traffic!
Buzzing cars is not cool! (drive past car very fast and very loud)

Don't wave with one finger.... especially to cars. Remember their bigger than you. Most people that have the right spirit in them don't care what you ride, as long as you're not riding like a jackass, they'll wave to you.

I usually wave but sometimes not. There are days when we see 300-500- bikes on a day trip, if 1 out of 4 vehicles is a bike it's tough to wave and drive at the same time . if I'm on straight yea no problem, but if we're touring on some narrow back roads, with a lot of curves and trees, or in heavy traffic, usually not. Just a saftey thing with me.

It is nice though in light traffic, 95% wave.

If you are not on a Harley most Harley riders won't wave (I have a hard time these days telling one cruiser from another). I notice a number of sport bike riders don't wave also - I think they have a hard time taking a hand off the low clip-ons. But I even wave at scooter riders!
