I recently moved to the Seattle area from northern CA and I'm looking for a group of Buddhists who enjoy riding as much as I do.

I can ride pretty much weekends and early weekdays, just send me a pm if you're interested.

I ride a cruiser but I'd be willing to ride with anyone as long as they're tolerant of my religious views.

So, why do you have to MIX the two ????

I don't know or care what the religious views are for most of the folks I ride with.

Good luck finding such individuals within the cruiser crowd. I would say the chances of finding the "like minded" individuals are next to nill. As a general rule religion is not discussed on rides, maybe reserved for the campfire discussions, unless the group is pretty tight and tolerant. Talking religion is a delicate matter.

As someone outside the Christian community, I know that it can be nice to have philosophical conversations and know you're not going piss anyone off.

Good luck in your search. I suggest you look for atheist/freethought groups in your area. From what I've heard there are plenty up that way, and they'd be fine with you.

Ive never really attempted to ride in a group before out of the blue like this but it seems that mixing my philosophical/religious beliefs and hobby is a no no? Ive just been harassed before after opening up to people who didnt understand.

Well I'm agnostic so it doesn't bother me,also a Harley rider and here in WA but I'm far closer to Portland,OR than Seattle.
Can't say as I've ever ridden with a Buddhist,come to think of it I don't think I've ever even known one lol.
I don't care what someones race or religion is as long as they don't care that I'm agnostic and not interested in being converted to theirs.
As long as you like to ride and at least have a bit of a sense of humor and aren't easily offended or overly PC I can ride with you.8)
Don't care what anyone rides either,got friends with Hondas,Beemers,Kawasaki and other bikes it's all good with me,I just like Harleys and I'm a third generation H-D rider.

It just depends on the people you ride with. I think our little group can talk religion and politics but still a tad touchy. It takes time, trust and respect. Emotions and feelings can run high and it is difficult to hold back opinions. There is nothing wrong with keeping your beliefs to yourself, advertising/proselytizing can get you burned quickly. Personally I would be interested in learning about your beliefs and life, probably would not agree but interested all the same.

I gotta agree with both Y2k, and Vinnie here, most (if not all) of the riders I know are more interested in the riding than they are in what color your skin is, or how often you may or may not go to church, the little group that Vinnie is talking about is 4 of us from Mn (Vinnie, Clint, Tricker, and myself) that got together without any previous meeting and spent about a week riding down to The Tail of the Dragon where we meet up with several other forum members one of which is black, and horror on horror the others are southern Rebels, we all got along great for the whole time, and religion never even came up till the last night before we started home, that's when i found out that one of our little group is an Atheist, but I was more intrigued by the fact that he's also a member of Mensa.

I know that if you have been burned in the past it might be hard to believe that having riding as your common ground could make a difference, but you might just be surprised, because unless it's something that you have a need to try and push on others I don't think anyone is going to care.

I think you misunderstood some of the comments.

The initial question you asked is a really good thing to try; that is, find others of "like mind" to ride with.......but religion is not the ONLY common ground with your fellow man (riders).

I think you would have better luck taking the opposite tact; that is, asking in the Budhist community for riders.......rather than asking in the rider community for Budhists. More likelyhood of a match.

Mixing your religion and your hobby is not a no-no.....unless the others involved don't like that mix. That happens most often when you try to force the issue.

I wouldn't care, the friends I ride with wouldn't care, it is about the ride and staying safe for us. Unfortunately we live in the Portland area. If you come down this way, I'd be happy to ride with you.
