I have come to the conclusion that i just cant afford my dream bike the TL1000R so after a bit of looking around i am going to go for the TL1000S 97-99 model.
I am wondering do these bikes suffer from any problems or if there is anything i should look for i remember reading an article that they can suffer from gearbox problems can anyone shed any light on this and also what sort of mileage do they get before needing a rebuild i looked at one which had 128,000 kilometres on the clock it was a bit noisy but still seem to run ok.
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2001 TL1000S- had it for 1.5 years-no problems to date-5000 miles on the bike. Mileage is about 30 mpg- these big twins are very thirsty. The S model is a much better street bike than the R- if you want a fully faired Superbike buy a GSXR. It is a very different ride if you are used to inline 4's- it is a blast and makes loads of power down low. It seems to be pretty bulletproof so far. You will need pipes and other mods to unleash its full potential. Good Luck, Ed.
