Well im buying my first bike this Saturday. Im buying a blue/white 2005 GSXR-600. Im very nervous as this is my beg. bike. I dont plan on doing any tricks nor speeding like most idiots around my area do. I have heard so many great stories about owning a bike.

Ill hopefully have pics of it up here soon!

If anyone can give me tips and advice ill be more then happy to accept it!

Prepare to be flamed!

Good luck with the bike, and play safe.

Uh oh, here we go again, I was also given the advice to buy
a. a used bike and
b. a small bike ie; 250cc or maybe 500cc.

I agree it's true that smaller bikes are easier to control and cheaper but, I didn't want to buy someone else's used bike. You never really know how they took care of it. Plus after a short while the small bike is going to get really boring.

So I ended up taking the advice of my MSF instructors and friends and relatives that ride bikes, buy what you are comfortable riding. I bought a '05 DL-650 V-Strom. It's a great bike and very forgiving. I know one day I may drop it or be hit by car. I would rather be on this bike than a smaller one if and or/when that happens. Just take your time and practice maneuvers where there aren't a lot of cars around to interfere or distract you. BIG parking lots are a great place. Good luck and be REALLY careful.

The Wee Strom is far more forgiving than any Gixxer. By the time you realize the mistake you just made on a Gixxer, you most likely are already dealing with the end results. There is no forgiving from a Gixxer and there is no time to take corrective action. If you choose to ride one, be confident of your abilities and know your limitations, or just polish it in the driveway a lot!

Apparently you've missed the point of the advise.
That is, it is advise, and not the rule.
If Lexus decides on learning on a brand new bike, hey good for them.
But hindsight can really be a b|tch at times.
Especially when an owner looks at a brand new dropped bike, when a certain
situation could have been handled in a different manner.

I really don't understand why people feel they need to, or are qualified to, go out and buy the hottest bike on the market? Perhaps its because they CAN. Its affordable.

Land of the free, home of the brave. But the brave can be really really damn stupid on occasion too.

Lexus, i was in your spot a while ago. However i TOOK the advice of these people, and my friends who ride. I have also had the time to see enough people like you who don't realize what they are getting into. I REALLY hope you scare the **** out of yourself before you hurt yourself or someone else.

Take a look on the internet at all the best riders in the world. They ALL started on smaller bikes. There is a reason. Unless you are just one of those folks who buys a gixxer to look cool. We call them squids.

You're gonna LOVE that bike. I got one myself :) I won't flame you because you already bought it. Just be careful and keep the shiny side up.
