I cannot remove the battery from 1987 Suzuki Intruder VS700. I got a new battery only a few months ago, but I'm winterizing the bike and wish to remove battery to put on battery tender. I followed the instructions in the Clymer book, but the screw on the negative side (the first one you're supposed to remove) is relentless. It must be stripped or I'm doing something else wrong. Not the easiet access either, so if it is stripped I have no idea how I'm going to get a tool in there to remove it some other way.

Is this a common problem with this particular bike? Also please have patience with me; I'm a new rider as of July 2004, and I have never posted anything before...this is my first. But I am LOVING riding!

Thanks much!

Thanks for responding. No, the screw doesn't turn at all. Looks like a simple Phillips head but no go. I realize I have something called "Screw Out" that removes stripped screws and I'm going to try that next. I bet the shop put on the old screw when they gave me my new battery, and the old screw is from 1987...so perhaps they stripped it when they put it on....

Just wondered if others had this much difficulty removing a battery from that model bike.
