I have a 1989 Suzuki GSX600F, and when i am going about 80 the bike feels like it is skipping or misfiring, but i know its a carburetion problem bc there is fuel dripping from the airbox when i got the bike parked, and its drinking fuel like crazy, i went through a whole tank in two days. In addition, after riding my right boot has oil on it, so i called the dealer and the service guy said the problems were linked, so i set an appointment, but they are booked until November 12!!! I have a Clymer's arriving in a few days and im real good with cars, never worked in depth on a bike before, other than changing the filters and plugs. I was hoping someone here could help me out and point me in the right direction. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance!!

I have owned several sizes/models of Katanas, and still have one (1100 ) in the garage.

( ON THE OIL)
Your more then likely leaking oil from the shifter seal or counter sprocket seal, I bet on the first one though, it is a weak spot, take the sprocket cover off and have a look see, find the wetspot   and you found the subject seal.

(ON THE FUEL ISSUE)
Sounds like your loading up on fuel, my 95 750 was the worst with the carbs, it loaded all the time till I found the problem, cracked top..
It was leaking the vacuum, causing one slide not to move up and down, and running REALLY rich.
I cracked the top when re-assembling them after a cleaning, and never noticed.

Your carbs could also be gummed up, not letting the needles seat properly, AND / OR don't laf I have seen this & had this happen>> a Main jet could have loosened up and fallen out into the bowl, no kidding it has happened before.
It will run smooth sometimes at idle, then load up on occasion, then when on the highway it would jerk at high speed.

take the carbs off, open the bowls, and have a look see, let me know what you see, pictures would be better though.

Peace,
Busafied

Have just fixed a similar problem on my brothers gs500, the oil was coming from the overflow pipe at the bottom of the air box mixed with petrol that was being overloaded in there and draining out the bottom, just happened that the pipe end was near the footpeg on his and dribbled out that way, could have been a lot worse if it had dribbled out over his back wheel or in front of the tyre.
Took the carbs apart and his main needle was sticking open on one of the carbs so fuel just kept flowing through and eventually overflowing into the airbox. simple enough fix once i managed to butcher the carbs apart.
I also put a new air filter in as i wasn't sure how the petrol soaking would affect it.

Busafied came up with a couple of other good alternatives to the problem. All fixed by just giving them a good clean really.

Have fun.
