Y'know, this looks great. But a guy once said to me that the biggest theft deterent is a nice, big Lock...and then maybe a chain for good measure.
Of course, my buddy says "My insurance policy is my own alarm" :)
What I currently use is a combination lock/alarm from Xena Security. I know it doesn't have the auto-start and 'beep-beep' (or is it 'chirp-chirp') of these fancy devices, but it does incorporate that lock and alarm into one sweet bundle.
Check it out: http://www.xenasecurity.com

I just priced the Xena lock as described above.

$109 for the XN15 lock.

If I want a chain that is used specifically for this model lock (6 foot chain) that is hardened, etc and supposedly can only be cut if it is torched it is $220 in total (with shipping).

The chain attaches to the disc lock so when I am home I can chain my bike to my dad's harley. If they cut the chain which I'm hoping by what the guy is saying is doubtful, they will still have to deal with the siren on the disc lock as well as trying to cut the disc lock (most likely they will just lift it out like they did last time).

For $220 this is a cheaper alternative than the above alarm in my first post for $400 (without installation). It also is a lot less work as I won't have to have it installed.

Let me know what you guys think.

Buy the Xena lock from an approved retailer online.
They usually offer big discounts.
I bought mine Xena XR1 with a big discount from http://www.bikebone.com
I can't say if they're still offering it, but they also sell your alarms n stuff.
So check with 'em and see what's up.

Don't know about over there but over here 3 of the best and most popular alarms are Datatool, Meta and Spyball.

When did all this go down?
Yesterday. I was just as surprised as you after I read the thread. I've been gone for a couple of days and then I read through some threads tonight and WOWZA!!

Concerning the bike alarm thing....to me they're not worth anything more than peace of mind and that's only if you believe it will save your bike. I still think insurance is the best defense you can have, but I'm not saying an alarm is a complete waste of money either.
