My Dowco cover melted (thought it wasn't supposed to do that but that is a different story) and now I have got a baked on plastic film on my chrome exhaust pipes. I have managed to get some of it off while the bike is running, but I have not been able to clean them completely.

Any advice?

steel wool cleans chrome. but it just gets dirt off, not melted plastic. and you've already tried getting it hot and scraping it off?

I saw on TV once that cleaning chrome with Coca Cola and Aluminum foil is a great way polish up your chrome. Just spray the chrome with coke and rub with foil for a great shine.

After further research it seems that the prefered method is coke + steel wool is the way to go. Wheel acid is also used instead of or added to the coke. Hope that helped.

A month or so ago I threw a cheap cover over my bike too soon and melted two big spots on the exhaust...hard as a rock. Searched around here and other forums and found the solution...I just ran the bike a few miles and back to get the exhaust nice and hot, then sprayed WD-40 on a rag and wiped it right off. Trick was to get the exhaust hot enough.
