At idle, I'm hearing some clikety noises from the engine, I can hear thmem too sometimes when riiding as well but the intensity changes at various RPMs.

Could this simply be because I'm still using the first oil (1st inspection/maintenance not done yet). I'm supposed to go for 1st maintenance at 1000KM, I'm at 760KM now. I called in for the appointment and it is shceduled for June 3rd

I asked the guy if I could still ride and he told me to just make sure I had enough oil. So, I'll be changing the oil and filter myself for now until first maintenance.

So, back to my question, is the clickety noise the result of filthy oil with metal shards in it?

Shouldn't be making any noises. WTF is that mechanic smoking?

Take it in and have him listen to it. Sometimes doing the maintenance yourself can cause warranty issues/problems later.

whoa, whoa, whoa...

the oil has metal shards in it!?!

that denotes a serious problem. if that is the case, then no, your bike is not "okay" to ride. engines are not supposed to knock... that's what doors are for... (okay, that was kinda corny, but you get the point)

A new engine often has metal shards in the oil - these come from the cylinder walls as the rings are fitting themselves, and from some metal dust left over from the factory. That's why you change the oil at 1000 miles - to get rid of these metal filings - it's perfectly normal.

However, clickety noises are not normal. Maybe a valve needs to be adjusted, or maybe something suffered from infant mortality. Take it to the shop ASAP and have the mechanic listen to it. A good wrench should be able to identify the problem by the sound alone ...

Probable Tappit adjustment is required. It should be ok till you get it in for it's 1st service.
It's better to be too noisey than no noise.
If the tappits did move, the clearence got wider.
If it get's too quiet, the there is less (or no clearence) the valves don't close all the way, and you could have worse issues (burned valve).

I'm calling again this morning to try to have someone check out the noise I'm referring too. But I'm calling my salesguy which is also the owner. If he doesn't want to help, I'll complain to Suzuki and visit another dealer for service.

A month for an appointment is way too long, if they sopld too many bikes then they should hire some more mechanics.

Metal shards!?! No way Inspiron, I ain't buyin' it. Yes you get metal in a new motor during break-in, but its more along the lines of metal dust. When you run it between your fingers you really should not feel any lumps, just a little grittiness. Shards would indicate a bearing being ate up, or a gouged cylinder wall. If the wall was gouged deep enough the motor should smoke well after closed-loop (after the motor 'warms up').

I decided to leave early from work and head directly to the dealer to have them listen to the noise and get a way to have an earlier appointment for first service.

If they can't I want written statement from them that changing the oil myself until then will not void my warranty.

And also pickup my two gifts, portable DVD player and Suzuki backpack.

Louis, you are aware that you PAID for those things, right?

That DVD player costs about $400 in stores, right? I bet you could have refused the "gifts" and saved a few hundred more on the price of your SV ...

Well, the offer was either the gifts or some lousy percentage off the loan with Suzuki Financing (which sucks).

The cut back offered by not taking the gifts was ridiculous.

So yes, I know I PAID for the gifts but I paid a very low price :)
