Think I may have to replace the clutch
my 1989 Honda CT110 stalls when I put it into gear
I loosened the chain and when on the stand i lift the back wheel off the ground I can the put it into gear all the way to fourth
but when the back tyre is on the ground and I put it into first it stalls straight away
Just checking I will need to do a clutch replacement hey…..
I’m not a very experienced mechanic…
Lol I’m not even a mechanic…
Thanx in advance
Cheers

Need to be careful not to get the chain too loose.
That won't have a significant impact on your problem anyway.

If it does have a centrifugal clutch, then the idle speed might be too high, causing the clutch to engage at idle.

Nah, thanks for the reply Easy Rider, I have the idle down low and nicely set, yes its a Centrifugal, think I need to rebuild it.....
Well most automatic clutches drag a little bit.
You don't have a lot of torque to work with and an idle speed that is too low can be a problem too.
Easy enough to try.

Also forgot to mention:
Does that model have a safety switch on the sidestand ?
If so that can cause it to cut off when put into gear too.
