Just wondering how many out there have rode their sport bike with dirtbike gloves? Is it really necessary to wear such thick gloves when dirtbike gloves have the knuckle protection as well?

//Palm protection...if you slide, where will the pressure be? What part will be against the asphalt?

oh oh. I didn't know there was a difference in gloves! I just bought a pair at the motorcycle shop that fit and was comfortable for warm weather. How do I tell if what I bought is a dirt bike glove? I know it has a gell pad in the palm and some carbon fiber type stuff.

Most dirt bike gloves are short wristed and aren't as flashy as street gloves.

Street gloves will have thicker leather and more padding, some have hard plastic across the knuckles and other impact spots. They are usually longer so your wrists are still protected if your jacket sleeve would happen to slide up. They are usually much more expensive too.

Or you could always ask a salesperson.

After doing some additional reading I also came to the conclusion that I'd need some street racing gloves. I've been looking into the Icon Timax gloves..they look pretty gnarly with some titanium inserts. Could definately throw down and mess someone up if they challenged you...even though that's not their primary purpose I know.
