picked up this brand new super clean 96 suzuki last year for my kid. 895 miles. electric start. went thru the carb,plug,oil,gas,tank,fuel line, new battery. now it runs good-if you push start it.
when using the start button, the first try is strong, but usually no start. 2nd push of the button sounds like the battery is 96%dead. thing is, i took it out of my 200 so i know its strong. any ideas, anyone?

You have a rather strange take on what is "brand new".

Then, without testing, you know no such thing about the condition of the battery.
The starter on the bike makes a decent "load test" and your's is failing........either because it's old or because you aren't getting it charged up good.

I bet you a beer that a new, properly charged battery will fix it right up.
You are using the choke when trying to start......right ??

If you do change the battery, then the charging system should be checked too.

You can jump it from a car......if the terminals are easy to get to.......just as a test.
The car should be OFF if you do that.
