Hi folks. I've just bought a used DR250S which has been imported in to the UK from Japan. I've got the Clymer manual and as far as I can tell, this bike is supposed to have a battery - but it hasn't! All the electrics seem to work fine when the bikes running (lights/indicators/etc) and so I guess they are being powered directly from the alternator (or something similar?).

Should this bike have a battery? Has it been wired in some way to bypass the need for one? If so, are there are disadvantages to not having a battery?

Any help is appreciated.

Kind regards.

Thanks Irwin, but the battery is definitely not there! When I turn the ignition on I have no neutral light, or any other electrics functioning, until the engine is started.

Do you know whether some models (this is a Japanese bike) came without a battery, or has the previous owner wired the bike up in such a way as to negate the need for one?

its suzuki, theyre all jap bikes. and it will still need one, the battery makes your lights alot brighter and if youre on road and its night when you pull off and stall your bike then no one can see you so a battery is important.
