the dealership that i bought the bike from keeps trying to convince me to let them drill straight down the pipe to improve the sound and slightly increase the hp....i've never heard of anything like that. Is it a good idea? has anyone ever done this before? could it lead to future problems?..all i know is that i really want to make my 05 sv650 sound better and go faster...oubviously the less $$$ i spend the better. the dealership told me they'll do this drill opperation for free! is it worth it?

Wouldn't that void your warranty? I'd do bolt on mods that can be reversed if needed.

This is a common mod on bikes with carbs. Sometimes you have to adjust the mixture screws a little, but not always. It will make the bike louder, but obnoxiously loud. The performence gain will be minimal.
Don't ever do it on a FI bike though, or you'll spend a bundle on having the FI re-mapped. The sc650 has a single carb, right?

Don't f**k with your stock pipes as long as the bike is under warranty. Either put on after-market slip-on cans (more sound, same performance), or replace the whole exhaust system (more sound, more power). If you change the exhaust, be sure to re-jet (carbs) or reprogram with a power-commander (FI).

I replaced my stock pipes with cobra slash outs. looks and sounds better. didnt notice to much power gain. BUT the weight diffirence between stock and the new cobra pipes............ I bet it was about 20lbs diffirence. The cobras are way lighter. I havent had mine rejetted, but it goes in this Tuesday they are going to adjust the cabs for me. I dont mess with dual carbs anymore.............. lets just say I had a Banchee once.............. :?:
