Well I have now dropped my new bike with only 800 miles on it,,, suxs!!!

I was in a curve,, sharp one at that and theis "frickin" truck was swinging wide in the apex of the curve,, he was halfway in my lane and I had no choice but to stand the bike up and lock them down.

Ended up running right off the road into a rut where I though I might be able to ride it out,, but all the mud and water proved me wrong. I layed it over and screwed it up.

Of course they slowed down, looked back at me, then took off like a bat out of hell,,, there were six immigrant workers in that truck. They were driving a dualie four door Ford F-350.

They probably are not legal citizens and they are woking down the road from my house,, I will be watching for them everyday now.

So I managed to dent and scratch the left tank cover, the front left turn signal is broke, the rear left foot peg is scratched all up, scuffed the paint on the front fender, and scratched the mirror and the clutch reservoir.

Already order the peg, turn signal, and tank cover. Not happy about it,, $270.00 dollars I wasn't planning on spending.

Tore up my jeans and left a nice bright cherry on my knee cap,, now the knee hurts and is swollen,, kinda shaky, so I don't believe I will be riding for a week or two,,errrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I did mange to still take my DMV test two hours later on the training classes little 250cc bikes and pass. But I was still shaky and I was way over protective to the left knee.

I was told there are riders who have dropped their bikes and those who will drop their bikes,, I guess I'm broken in good now,,, a set of riding chaps are going to be the next purchase for me after I get my repair parts.

Funny thing is the instructor at the school told me after I get about six months under my belt she'd like to have me as an assisitant,, $25.00 part time!!!! But I guess I need to learn to keep the shiny side up better.

Everyone else is saying it could've been alot worse if I hadn't steered it the way I did. I don't know,, just hate breaking in my bike that way.

Glad you are OK. You got off cheap if you think about it. As for the jerks in the truck, they aren't worth bothering with. They probably don't have a pot to *iss in anyhow. Anything else might get you a trip to jail.

Get out and ride again as soon as you can! :bluethum:

So sorry to hear about that!! You know though, I think you did what you had to do. They taught us that the way to quick-stop in a curve is to stand it up and lay on the brakes...

Was it a blind curve? Or did you see the truck coming and then they started drifting?

Dude, that sux! But I'm glad you did the right thing: hitting the ditch after slowing down is a lot better than hitting the truck head on. You are not badly hurt, which is the best part.
When yoy are up to riding, bring it by Decatur and I'll buff the scratches out of the chrome mirror and master cylinder for you. Piece of cake if you have the right equipment.

Hey I appreciate it,, I will take you up on that. It wasn't a blind curve they just drifted over halfway into my side of the lane. Of course moms said "I told you those things are dangerous",, but I did point out that if I had been in my car I'd nailed them head on,, so worse of the two evils.

Yeah the knee feels alot better today,, just I think it is best to wait till it feels stronger,, don't want to set the left foot down and drop it at a light. But I will definately bring it by Decatur when it's up and I'm up and able to ride safely again.

Thanks!!!!

 Sorry about your misfortune, but I guess the racing expresion is "any wreck you walk away fromis a good one". Having said that, I'd still have been ballistic after it happened, even though yelling at the truck as it pulled away wouldn't have done anything but amused the occupants!

Abandon your cornering attempt, get the bike straight up and apply all the brake she'll take without a skid. A last ditch effort to save your *ss when other options don't work, or don't exist.

Gixxerdale explained that one right,, it was a last ditch,, and hopefully that will be the last ditch I hit. Got back on it Saturday, rode Sunday, and rode to work this morning.

Notice I'm a little nervous going into the curves,, slowing down way too much,, gotta work on that.

If you can take longer rides and you will find your groove much quicker than taking many shorter rides. You need the miles to get settled in again. Just don't get over confident! If I'm off the bike for a few days, I need about 20 miles to settle in again. Then I'm ready to enjoy the ride.

Thanks Gixxer,,, I did notice that yesterday,, started "feeling it" again,,, noticed I was feeling a little more confident,, still I do feel a LITTLE apprehensive in some of the turns,, probably would feel alot easier in the twisties on a sport bike,, but yeah it's coming back again. I remeber a post on here that said if you are starting to feel too confident,, put it away in your pocket,, gotta remember that.
