you know what? its his own personal decision to wear gear or not. at leaat he has a helmet on. tell me this. http://www.uponone.com/videos.php?id=1051 in the beginning of that video, dan jackson wrecks doing a trick. even though he was doing something he wasnt supposed to, i dont think gear would have saved him from a broken back and various other injuries. (btw he is still alive and will recover from that fully.)

gear is recommended but still most people dont wear gear why? only one person around here wears a jacket and that is some guy on a cbr1100. when i get my bike, im not going to wear boots or pants. but thats it.

that guy on that video does those stunts for a living and if you notice there are only a few cars around him and they have cameras, thats because they get some cars and slow traffic and they shoot these videos.

phew. now that i got that off my chest, i feel better.

Well, i agree. though the average person DOESN'T hate bikers, they don't care if he wears gear or not, does wheelies or not. All they care about is spiltting lanes and speed. When they see ANY sport bike, they think speed and irresponsiblity, It does matter if all bikes rode safely and such, poeple would still see a machine able to do +150MPH, and corner faster than them. To the average person, something fast is irresponsible. Now I feel that i will wear a jacket and gloves, and that's about it. Unless I'm on a long journey, I wouldn't wear pants or boots. denim works well enough for me and my heely's are strong enough to take a bullet.

my rant of the day

Gear may not prevent every injury but it will certainly minimize the damage.

There's a reason racers walk away from almost every crash.
There's a reason insurance rates are as high as they are.

I'd rather wear my leathers and get funny looks and fingers pointed than get funny looks and fingers pointed at me because I can't walk right or because I have jerky skin.

THere are reason racers don't get hurt. CLEAR TRACK! beside witch, a track at 160mph is safer than the road at 40MPH. Poeple go down allt he time, what you really need to knwo is how to bail off your bike, or at times on  . Reasons insurance is soo high?? your not with state farm :). Wnat the rates to go down? to bad. Besides, half the guys in these videos are riding UNLICENSED bikes, uninsured. they ride THEIR bikes, and then they pick up their POS for a stunt ride. the average person DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GEAR OR WHEELIES! they will hate you or love you in a second, do to streotypes about bikes, most of witch are generally true. Like the speed of a bike, the ablilities of a bike. Even if no one stunted, poeple would still hate or love bikes. its that simple

insurance rates are high because bikes are fast and harley riders in the 50's permantly ruined it for everybody. dont blame the stunter that only a select few bikers know about. these people are small scale and they do thier stunts in a controlled enviroment.these people are not dangerous. they precticed these stunts for years with gear before attempting them without gear. these people are smart. who you gotta watch out for is that squid who saw this and thought i can do that and cant then wrecks and hurts himself badly.

 sadly i have not found my bike yet, im really leaning towards a GS500F but who knows my dad said he wants me to go with him tomorrow to look at bikes but who knows how that will go or if it will even happen. If it does for some reason im really leaning towards a R6 but i pray by tomorrow i go with my original idea of a GS500F

Yeah i was thinking about that its just all my friends have 6's and if i plan to ride with them i doubt i will be able to keep up you know? Also its about 5 g's for a GS500 new for about 3 g's more i can get a better bike. im not saying im going to get the 6 just thinking about everything because im going to have to finance the bike you know and i dont want to waste money

well, the way i see it is: if you are a big guy, as in strong and bigger than other people, you should have the strength to not let a bike whip you around. and as long as you dont get too cocky, you should be fine with a r6. i dont see why if you baby it and set a personal goal to not go over a certain speed, or maybe you can limit the bike itself till you get used to it. that way, you wont lose money you could use to buy gear. just as long as your not cocky on it. understand?

Well i have no pride or cockyness i can admit that im not a very big guy, in fact im 5"7 and i only wiegh around 135. I have a Joe Rocket Speedmaster suit with Speedmaster boots and Shoei helmet even though i havnt got my bike yet. I wear a size 40 in my riding suit it was the tightest fit, something recommended by guys on this forum. I also have speedmaster gloves so im fully geared up and ready to go just have to get a bike. Trust me i fear the bike and have great respect for it and its power and thats because i have ridden my friends 04 gixxer so i know i would be cautious

I hear from you a lot on this forum Novaz. Hell its so often I feel like I know you personally. It sounds like you take eveything into consideration and make your decisions rationally. You will probably be OK with a 600 as your first bike. Just cruise on your bike until your comfortable and don't push yourself if you're not ready.

Yeah thats true Jaydog, I do post alot only because i believe there is power in knowledge. Heck just the other day i had a conversation with my GF about your GF's accident Jay and how you work at a seafood restuarant and have your own apartment and such. Yeah im not really sure what my Dads going to do regarding the bike situation but I know if it comes down to him saying either get a 6 or nothing you know what im going to get A 6. I just will have to be more cautious, whether its a 250,500 or a 600 It all comes down to rider expierence. In my MSF course they taught us about what makes a good motorcyclist and never did they mention one that gets a smaller motor bike. No Im not trying to dispute anyones claims that a beginner should start with a 500 or less because i believe that myself, but I did not go to MSF course to sit and watch others ride into the sunset while i drive my car around hauling major a$$. I live to ride i have expierenced the joy of being on a motorcycle and want it constantly, i realize the dangers thats why i have purchased some of the best gear. Im not a squid, im not cocky, i have no one to impress I just want to ride. :)

Those were really cool videos, but I really resent the fact of doing those stunts on the highway or other public roads. They should go to a track for doing such risky stuff.

Its true that gear does not make you invincible. In fact it can do nothing if you crash into a brick wall at 50. But if you slide..........is can make all the difference in the world. No one plans of HOW they get into an accident, but having gear makes your chances of injury 50% less in my book.
