Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with exhausts other than yoshimura-like scorpion or fmf etc. Are they better, worse, just different? Just wondering for my own quest for knowledge.

Peace

exhaust

I've found that M4 seems to out perform Yoshi in the slip on/bolt on market. You get a true 6-6.5bhp extra in just the can change. I've discovered that Yoshi's give you between 5-6bhp and may sometimes need a power commander or jet kit depending on the bike. I've also heard the same about D+D on bhp. I haven't heard much on the bhp for Two Bros. yet, so it's hard to tell. M4 is going to be deep and throaty. The nice thing is at an idle it's pretty quiet. Everyone I've talked to that has used Scorpion has said they love the sound, but the bhp increase is almost unnoticeable. That could only mean one thing...1-3.5bhp increase. If you go full, M4 or Yosh is the way to go for a non track bike. If you're going track, Akraprovic race, Arrow race, Yosh Race, M4 race, and a few others that aren't as popular on the track. The Akraprovic line is quite expensive, so be sure what you want before you buy anything. You might be able to find a bunch of Yosh and FMF stuff on Ebay, but the rest you'll probably have to do some forum jumping to find a good deal on one unless you buy new. Good luck and hope this was helpful.

I have a vance and hines slip on. Since I don't have any experience with any other types of exhaust systems I can't offer any comparisons. But I can tell that I do love my slip on, it looks great, sounds good (not too loud, but throaty) and seems well made, and best of all it was pretty inexpensive. As far as power improvement, when i added it i also added the k&n airfilter and jet kit, so I can't say alone it will make much more power. check their website for more info, i think they even have a sound clip, but I'm not sure. Hope this helps.

I couldn't afford a custom Harley, so I put on a D&D can for some more noise. I got more noise. I'm happy.

Of course, if I'm ruining my bike with this can, someone please tell so.

You're not ruining your bike but you are helping to ruin the image of sportbike riders everywhere.

Louder isn't better especially when it's D&D loud.

Not being a *****, just D&D's are obscenely loud and irritating.

:)

Here's my 2Bros pipe. The sound so far is exactly what I was wanting, deeper not louder.... it's perfect.

Here's clips of before and after....

I would go with the M4. I dyned my bike before and after, a total gain of 6hp at the wheel. Noise is another factor that you have to keep in mind. Most after market exhaust are much louder than then stock. that was the main reason why I replaced mine. I was getting tired of people coming into my lane because they didn't realize I was there. No longer an issue. They now know I am there.

One thing to keep in mind is that about all aftermarket exhausts are NOT street legal and are intended for track use only.....of course you'd have to find a real big ****head for anyone to say anything.

All aftermarket pipes??? I can understand racing ones being illegal. Are you speaking of your state only, anyone in cali know if they're illegal???
From the Warranty of 2Bros:
WARRANTY: All of the items sold by TBR are intended for off road use only and are not street legal, DOT approved or EPA approved. Any of the items sold in our catalog could possibly void the motorcycle manufacturer’s warranty. TBR warrants its products to be free from any manufacturing defects at the time of delivery, but makes no other warranty claims.
From Yoshimura's website:
Q. Are Yoshimura exhaust systems street legal?
A. No. Our exhaust systems are intended for race use
But no, not all aftermarket exhausts are illegal on the street. This is largely due to noise levels. OEM pipes have to conform to a <84dB level (I think that's it), most aftermarket pipes are over that limit and that it usually changes the emissions of the bike.

But like I said, you'd have to run up on a real turd for anything to be said about your pipe.

Here in Germany and Switzerland, exhaust systems either come with an "ABE" certificate (general use permission) or they have to be examined and entered into your registration paperwork, otherwise they are not street legal. And since you have to bring your vehicle (car, bike) in for a technical inspection every 2 years, it's not easy to put an illegal exhaust (or any other after-market racing parts) on it. People still do, but they end up with a heavy fine when the gents in the tailored uniforms stop them.

I was wondering myself about some exhaust options. I'm thinking about a 4 in 1 for my Busa combined with a power commander. Anybody with suggestions for a good 4 in 1???

Thanx

If I was going to replace the 4-2-2 on my 1400 with a 4-2-1 system, I would go with the Yoshimura, simply because they work closely with the Suzuki factory. On the GSX1400.ORG site, some of those guys have gone with the 4-2-1, and one of them will be going back to a 4-2-2 because the pipe has become a bottleneck (okay, he's done a few mods to his engine, I think he's turobcharged it).

The 2005 GSX 1400 has a 4-2-1 now ... looks like [email protected] I'm planning to stay with the 4-2-2 on my bike (I like the sound and the look).

Thanx guys! I was thinking Yoshimura, but was not sure about other manufacturers. Since I don't plan on many other mods, I think the 4 in 1 is O.K. for me. The 2 main reasons are weight and sound. I'll save about 30 pounds getting rid of one of the pots and pipes. Also, the sound of the stock exhaus is not appealing to me....
