I agree with layinlo.

If you buy it I would tear the thing apart and relube EVERYTHING you can. Maybe the kid is like me though. I keep EXCELLENT care of my bike and I am estimating my 2004 to have about 10,000 to 12,000 by the end of this summer. You can expect that bike to last for years to come if he kept good care of it and you plan to do so also.

15,000 is just broken in! For someone who knows little about motorcycles, that might be too much bike.

Rowdy is also right about the too much bike for a new rider. You didn't say so I won't judge.

It's a common misconception for people to think a bike only lasts 10,000 miles. They last SOOO much longer than you would think, just many people don't know how to take care of them.

 Dale, how many miles do you have on your Gixxer ???
Not enough! But my friends 1999 Superhawk just hit 133,000 trouble free miles. Those are all weekend fun miles too! No commuting or weekday riding!
