Anyone have any experience with changing out standard pegs on the VL800 to forward controls? I'm interested in getting some, but I wondered how difficult, if at all, it was to get used to the new reach.

Thanks!

I had forwards on my 800 for a time, but took them off. I liked the extra leg room, but felt I could not countersteer in the mountains as well sitting in a more reclined possition. I also lost some ground clearance, and dragged the forwards a lot more than I ever dragged the stock pegs. I LOVE blasting across a twisty mountian road at high speed, so the forwards just were not for me.
So I sold the forwards and put on some highway pegs that attach to the frame without engine guards, and have the best of both worlds.
If you have long legs, and feel cramped, you will really enjoy the forwards. Around town, they certainly are cool looking, and give you a laid back riding possition. But if the bike is comfortable for you now, you may be like me and find you like the highway pegs better.
The best advice I can give you is to find someone else with forwards, and sit on their bike and maybe see if they will let you take it for a spin. If you do buy some, retain all the stock parts so you can go back if you want.
The Restyling brand forwards are the most affordable for the Intruder, and they are easy to put on and take back off.

Thanks, Sisco, for the resource, but now I'm really confused.

I have an Intruder 800, not a Volusia. Is that a VS800 or a VL800? I don't have my manual with me, so I'm not sure.

PS: I MAY have ordered the wrong taillight assembly, after I became a "drop the motorcycle during the first 6 months" statistic last week. --mf

The Intruder is the VS800, the Volusia is the VL800. Very few parts fit both, so make sure you specify the VS.
Do you need the whole tail light or just the lens? I have a couple spares, and I'll sell you a lens cheep if that is all you need.

Thanks Dr. Bob, but the whole thing tweaked. Washed it, was rolling it to the garage, and she slipped out of my hands. :x

I HATE it when that happens! First time I dropped mine was at a gas station...I was checking out the girl who was checking out my bike, and I was Mr Cool as I hung up the gas hose, popped my gas cap back on, and swung my leg over to go pay...only to have the bike crash down when i forgot to put down the kickstand.
