Any ideas on how to go about removong a frozen valve cover bolt, as I need to do the valve adjustment on my 99 Katana 600. Of course its the hardest one to access and is a 6mm allen so I fear I may strip it out if I keep going, and then would have to drop the engine.

Also any ideas to get some more low end from this bike, keeping in mind I'm also on the highway everyday.

Thanks in advance

ok, get an allen wrench, in the form of a socket if you can. Once you get it in the hole, try your darndest to give it a good tap, #1 to seat the tool in the fastner/bolt head, and #2 when you tap the top of the bolt, it will also help break corrosion on the threads. Let us know how it goes, good luck.

go with a sprocket change, smaller up front and bigger on the back is the most reliable to get more bottom end. Don't forget, you will lose top end

Thats just the problem I do quite a few highway miles and don't want to be taching so high. Someone had mentioned an ignition advance and I was curious as to their effectivness.
Thanks Again JRE

the only ignition advance I really know about, is the one for my 02 gsxr 1000. Yes it does make a differance, and only in 1st 2nd 3rd gears

Another engines mods may not be the answer for your engine. You need to get on the dyno because it may be beneficial to spark before TDC instead of after. Or vice versa. Remember ignition timing mods may beneficial during low rpms but could rob you of high end torque. Its give and take after a certain point.

Good Luck

the ignition mod for the gixxers, such as mine, give you the 5th gear ignitoin map in all gears. Suzuki backed off the timing in 1st 2nd 3rd, and a slight bit in 4th, as to smooth out the rideability for people useing it on the road. By doing this mod, you get more power in all gears except 6th. The 5th gear ignition map gets you to max power faster, and on the 1000's, eliminates the top speed govener. If you do the mod for the 6th gear map, you get a slight bit more hp, but it takes longer to get there.

Anything that eliminates the top speed govenor is a plus in my book.

Which bolt is it, the one in the middle, way up in front? Try some heat, like a propane torch. Sometimes a fractional allen key slightly bigger hammered in there works. I would say that the best way to get some bottom end is to drop one tooth on your front sprocket only. This will keep most of your top end. Ignition maps work great for fuel injected bikes, but yours is carbureated and that does you no good.
