Anyone know why I suddenly cant select neutral when the engine is running on my 2003 sv650s, when the engine is turned off is goes into neutral easy, the bike has covered 3500 miles. Has anyone esle had the same problem as I am starting to worry that the problem is serious.

Have you tried both shifting up from 1st and down from 2nd? Mine can sometimes be tricky when running, but it eventually goes into neutral.

Also, can you shift into neutral before coming to a stop? That is usually the easiest way for me.

on my bike, going from 2ed into neutral is way easyer then going from 1st to neutral.
I have found a neutral between 3rd and 4th, when downshifting i guess i never hit the lever hard enough and was in its own little neutral, sounded harsh when i tryed to jam it into 3rd. Only happened once, was weird...

Travis,
False neutrals are a bad sign. Hopefully it doesn't happen often.

Could be a mis-adjusted clutch cable. Too loose, you should have a few MM's of play at the lever.
