Let me start off with the fact that I am not a newbie. This will be my fourth sport bike and my second gsxr. (I bought and sold as I gained experience). My question is concerning the riding comfort on the gxsr. I had a 2001 gsxr 600 and I loved it, but it hurt my hands A LOT. After about 30 minutes of riding, my hands and wrists were completely numb. I was wondering what I could do, if anything, to alleviate this problem on a 2004 gsxr 600? I've read articles about using heli bars, but I don't know much about them. What do you guys recommend, or what have you done to improve your comfort level while riding?

was that just with the gixxer..... or did U go numb on other bikes to.....
I know the gixxer is semi gear for taller people, but I dont think that would have much to do with it...
I would try a r6 and a cbr for fitment and se if those fit better.... I know I dotn fit very will on either, and Im 6'1 os I know there geared for high 5' people...
I hope this helps..

Why aren't you considering a more 'real-world' bike? Many of us own bikes that run with the race-replicas but have much better ergos.

Well, I"m 5'8 and the position on my '03 gixxer 1000 is plenty comfortable to me. But a LOT depends on your preportions. I have relatively short legs and a longer torso.

You can also adjust the handle bars a bit as well as the clutch/brake handles. Make sure that it's set up for YOU to ride.

The last thing I'd mention is probably not necessary, but you never know. That is that I've seen some people try and ride a Gixxer with their arms straight... NOT the best position to ride in. May be easier on your back or neck, but not the way a sport bike was meant to be ridden. Make sure that your arms are bent and relaxed as much as possible. Don't get a "death grip" on the hand grips either.

Your best bet is to see if you can take one for an extended ride and see if you have problems with it.

Good luck!

Use your abs to keep the weight off of your hands and wrists. If your going numb you may be either carrying too much weight right there or you got some bad vibrations coming through the clip ons

The numbness happened on my Katana 750 too, but it took much longer for me to feel it. Thanks for the tips, guys. Rowdy Red, tell me some of the "real world" bikes that you recommend. I had a Katana 750 and it was a comfortable bike, but I don't want something that heavy or wide. Can anyone tell me anything about the Yamaha YZF 600R?

Well, if you insist on the lightest, narrowest bike then you won't be happy with what I'd suggest.

Hands going numb could be for a number of reasons.

Bike ergonomics, vibration, clenching the grips, etc...

Maybe you have carpal tunnel syndrome.

My thinking is that you should be able to buy any bike you feel like then take measures to mod it for you comfort. Handlebars can be changed to wider, higheror more pulled back. A grip with more cushioning may help as may a throttle rocker or cruise control.

Sounds like your weight is mostly on your hands which is causing the problem, so you need to get the bars closer to you in order to get some weight back in the saddle rather than on your hands.

Is it possible to raise the handle bars so I don't have to bend over as far? With the foot pegs so rear-set, if the handle bars were raised, would that put more pressure and weight on my hands, or less?
