Watch the roads, if a reflector in the road looks bigger than normal. It probably is and for a reason. Suffice it to say that I was not being the smartest person when this happened but survived with this being the only damage.

Did you happen to take I-10 coming into P-Cola from the east? If so then you saw where you are supposed to stay in one lane and not cross over to the other. Them little rectangular reflectors are actually speed bumps that are not to be dismissed. Guy behind me said I was about 3 ft in the air. I hear a loud HISS for about a second and then realized that I was airborn. Only thoughts were to get my a$$ out of the seat and leave the brakes alone. Landed and very quickly realized that I had the handling of a full dump truck with 3 flat tires. Had to limp the bike just under half mile to the off ramp to check out damage since there was no where to stop on the bridge.

My choices were to either try the speed bumps or get run over.

You have some explaining to do, mister.

Why did it take three posts to get your story across? I'm waiting!

Remember that it's only money. That sick, twisted gut feeling will pass soon enough and you're realize that you've been lucky one more time. Celebrate!

while money is an issue, my main concern right now is being thankful that I stayed mostly clear headed while this was going on. Just glad I didn't freak and spaz out. Would of turned into a puddle instead of just being disgruntled for now.

jaydog> I bought the thing to ride, not look at. Have had it for just over 2 yrs and have 23,934 on the odo. Busted wheels suck, but not the end of the world. The truly hard part is talking my wife into letting me get the new ones. Especially when I figure that since I need them anyhow, I might as well get some aftermarket ones. So far thats not flying so hot

Yup, I know EXACTLY where you were. An elderly woman a bit in front of me caught those humps with her right side tires on her caddy, flattening them both instantly. She hit the brakes, and the woman behind her rear-ended her... I remember thinking that it would screw up a bike pretty bad if I had needed to run over them to avoid the accident...as it was, I was able to slow down to about 10 MPH before jumping lanes, so I passed between them, snuck around the wreck, and was on my way without incident.
Coming back the other way, I was fascinated by the temporary steel grate bridge sections they had put up, and awed by the power of the wind and waves that had destroyed the concrete bridge.
I popped down to visit the ex-USS Oriskany, the carrier tied up downtown that they plan to sink as a reef, and to take some photos of it for my website. I will probably be back in the next 2-4 weeks...if you are around I'll buy you a beer, and help convince your wife that aftermarket wheels are actually CHEEPER, better, and safer than OEM ones. If that doesn't work we'll just drink.

Sounds good to me DrBob. While I was limping the bike to an offramp had a car pass me with a flat tire, figured that was what happened but really wasn't sure. Everyone I was with thought that rubber from her tire did something to me and that was why I pulled over.

Be glad FHP didn't see you on the bridge heading East. Would of had been a $310 ticket for it. There is a sign just before the bridge starts that says motorcycles are not allowed on the bridge temporarily because of the steel gratings. We have to take a 30 minute detour to get around that section.

Hmmm...must have missed that sign! Three of us were riding together, and we crossed that bridge 3 times that day, so FHP would have made some $$$ off us...but we passed at least 4 bikes coming over the grates when we were headed into town, so I guess I'm not the only one who missed that sign.
I'll let you know when I am coming back to town..I am working on permission to go on board the carrier for some interior shots for a magazine article.

Hey, man...

Glad to know that you're doing fine! Now that it's over I know the majority of your concern lies on your BIKE. So after you calm down & recap the events, I'll be waiting to read about the incident.

Dude, that's some @#$%ed up stuff, right there!!

When are we (riders) going to be recognized as genuine users of the road?!? The State Dept.s of Transportation apparently do not consider our needs when they do some of the things they do!

If those bumps are tough enough to flatten a car tire, they are definitely a hazard to bikes. I smell a lawsuit coming (I don't mean from you) if they don't correct that situation.

Yeah, I don't plan on attempting a lawsuit for this. I am however gonna go talk to DOT today after I get some pictures of where everything happened and see if they are willing to work with me on this or not.
