Hello everyone! I've always liked the gixxers and I just got a 2000 gsxr 600. It needs some work but I'm willing to fix it. I've never rode a bike before but I'm learning. I have to take care of all the safty stuff before I go riding though. I do have a quick question. There is a rattle (kind of sounds like pinging) that comes on occasionally after playing around with the throttle. It comes on for about 1-5 seconds then quits. I'm not really sure what it is, but maybe someone here does?? I've already started buying aftermarket parts, and I'm going to fix the fairings and paint it this week.

Thanks,
James

Congrats, James. Welcome, and be careful.
Do a supremo job on that fix-up any you'll be less likely to be careless on the road. :)
Where does the pinging noise originate?

I'm pretty familiar with body work, and this is no different than a car. The only PITA is getting all these stickers off.

My interest really isn't in riding the bike. I'm mostly interested in fixing them. So far, things seem really easy to work on. Riding the bike is something that comes with having it though :) I'm not going to be trying wheelies or any tricks like that, I just want to cruise it around with my buddies.

The noise sounds like its in the head. Its coming from the right side, but its not consistent so its going to be hard to find.

Thanks,
James

pinging...

hey james,
I have also herd the same noise that you have herd. I want to know what it is also. same situation, give it a few low revs, let it idle then from 1-5 sec of a ping, or a really fast clank, then goes away. weird..
anyone out there know what this problem could be?
