That could be part of your problem too. Sometimes they dump more gas into the carbs than they were designed to handle. If the needle valves are worn, and you are using a Pingel, or another vacuum-less petc0ck, then the gas valve will keep dumping fuel into the carbs after the motor is shut off. Normally, the carburetor overflow vents are supposed to stop this, and allow the fuel to dump on the ground. but sometimes they don't.

No No NO. Emulsion tubes, needle jets, and main jets, are fuel metering devices, all wrong. FLOAT VALVES are what you are talking about, these stop the flow of fuel when the float bowls are full. If not absolutely perfect will allow fuel to seep past the seat, filling the crankcase with gas. BTW get into the habbit of turning the tank valve off when you park it, if its not a vaccum operated one.
