I have a 2003 fuel injected gsxr600. I was looking at the gs500. I have been debating weather or not to sell the gsxr and get the gs500 for the past month and i've gotten nowhere! I just can't decide so I figure i'll ask what you guys/girls would do.

gs500f - more upright position which I like for long rides, oil cooled carberated so less maintanance, less expensive to run and still has the aggressive styling. heard the build quality isn't the greatest and is prone to rusting. I also like to know I can handle a bike even if I wring it's neck.

gsxr600 - sitting position not good for long rides. love the power. has all the mods on it already (exhaust frame sliders ext.) I would be able to make $1000 profit by selling and getting the gs500f

I just don't know what to do. I bought the gsxr used like it is now. it's my first bike. should I keep it or should I get the gs500f..... I've been thinking it over and have gone nowhere!

please help!

Kevin, I'd definitely would sell the gixxer and get the GS500F (not sure it's really the F model). Take the extra money, buy good clothing if you haven't already. Invest the rest into some advanced classes.

Be safe, let us know what's your ultimate decision.

I really like that bike, I was also considering the sv650. I want something to last the rest of my life. it seems like the gs500 you have to coat with wd40 to prevent it from rusting away. i've heard from everywhere that it rusts like no other. anyone else heard different??? I love the bike but the rust factor turns me off a little

Don't know where you got this info, have never heard of a rust problem with the model. Heck the local riding school has a dozen of them 10 years old and there is no more rust on them than any other bike.

How old are you to want a bike to last the rest of your life ? A well maintained non abused bike can last 20 to 25 yrs or even more.

I'm 21 years old and I like to keep things running by myself.. as in not paying money for a garage or dealership to do it. kind of a challenge to myself to see how long I can make something last. I heard the rust stories on a gs twins message board. someone was saying they had rust on the exhaust after only 4 months brand new. others were saying they had to spray WD40 on the bolts and places on the frame to keep it from rusting. i've decided to stay with the gixxer. love the looks and the bike and it's actually what I started learning on so I feel it's what i'm most comfortable with. I still have it in the paper though, this just means if someone doesn't want to pay what i'm asking, then no deal cause it's mine. since I couldn't make up my mind, I figured i'll just keep it since I love th ebike so much. after all, what's a motorcycle without a loving rider to take care of it?

I think if I knew what I know now I would have started on a gs500. love the bike. but, I didn't know anything when I bought the 03 gsxr got 3 grand under retail with nothing wrong and tons of mods. so, i'm keeping it. plus, the girlfriend really loves it and she learned on it too. I can't just get rid of something that already has so much history :)
