my front brakes were feeling spongy so i had the front pads replaced (at Metropolis in Vauxhall) as they were getting close to the wear indicators, this improved the bite, however they still feel a little spongy, I have taken the bike to Rex Judd where their mechanic told me that this was a common problem with older Suzuki's (mine's 1997 P reg) and that a possible remedy would be to get the brake hose replaced, possibly with braided ones.

has anyone heard of this problem before?

Thanks

Definately consider stainless lines, but you didn't mention the condition of the fluid. Brake fluid collects water over time, which decreases its performance. It must be replaced, and the system properly bled.

Nice intro, BTW. Welcome, bold stranger!

The fluid has been replaced & the system has been bled twice. yet it still feels spongy, the brakes work fine, i'm just concerned that the feel seems to have deteriorated.

I'll definately upgrade to braided hoses, hopefully that makes a difference.

Thanks for your feedback.

I recently learned something that may be relevant - seems some motorcycle clutches must be bled with a vacuum pump. There's no way to get all the air out otherwise. My buddy just went through a pile of hassle trying to firm up the clutch on his '82 Magna. Finally a dealer showed him the way. Maybe that's what your brakes need. :?:

Hi,Dil

Gixer 600 brakes are renowned for 'spongeyness'.
New pads are a good idea, good brake fluid defo, braided lines can make them too touchy, depends on your riding style.
