Greetings everyone.

As the title suggests i have just ordered a SV650, one thing that concerns me is i am particularly short in the leg. About 28" I seem to suffer the problem of having wide thighs (muscular :p ) and combined with short legs doesnt help me when riding. Now i took my test on a lightly ( i was told) modified bandit 600 about 8 years old a and felt just about ok on that (would have prefered to have been slightly more comfortable)

I have ordererd the k4 SV650 as it really appealed to me and the dealer has told me that he will lower the seat for me. Now i am wondering whether that will be sufficient? I ordered the bike without having sat on it, i liked the look and the fact its a v twin, and i enjoyed riding the bandit and guessed it could only be better being approx 40kgs lighter and the reviews being all positive. I have always loved bikes but have been slightly put off by the fact i couldnt reach the floor with both feet flat.

So i look to you for your advice is the seat lowering enough or am i going to get more modifications on order? I am going to the dealer on Saturday to pay and picking it up the following Week.

I thankyou in anticipation.

First of all, CONGRATS on the new bike!!! :bluethum:

I just got an 04 SV650S and LOVE it!!! I'm also a bit vertically challenged, so had my bike lowered. I'm 5'5" w/ my boots on!

Prior to having the bike lowered, when I sat on it, I could touch w/ the balls of my feet. This wasn't horrible, but didn't make me feel completely comfortable either. With the bike lowered, I can touch w/ flat feet, even when a pad is placed on the seat.

One thing you should check out is if they are going to be lowering only the back of the bike, or if they will also lower the front. W/ mine, they lowered the front to match the back, that way the riding position stays the same and the reactiveness of the bike is also the same.

Good luck, let us know how it turns out!

Oh yeah...and what color did you go with???

Thanks for your prompt replies guys :)

Im definately going to have to get on the thing and see what is going to have to be done. I hope i can get away with the seat being lowered and that be the end of that (fingers crossed). I had to get this bike as is was such an appealing bit of kit and i scored such a good deal that it was impossible to say no really. Went for a black bike as its my fave :)

Re: the thigh talk, i shall bear that in mind - thanks for the warning -

Anyway, make sure your not getting a "thin" sour seat job. It'll be lower, but even less comfortable.

Right well ive been to pay the remainder of the bike and try the seat height.
I am basically on tip toes as it stands  No Good!!
However i have been advised that there are modifications available at a reasoanbly smal price. I.e the seat and suspension lowering slightly, (tie bars from badit mania) so am probably going to pick the bike up with the seat having been adjusted and then make arrangements straight away for the suspension to be lowered a touch.
(pain in the ass being short)
As for the bike itself well... Love it cant wait for next saturday now.
Thanks for your help guys :)

You know, I don't have any problems with the height (I'm 5'8") but I hear every day that they are too high for a lot of people. Is there any reason that the seat can't just be designed 1 inch lower? This would save a lot of people a lot of trouble. Also my girlfriend kind of wants a bike, but she can hardly get on mine, and deosnt like how the 500's look. She isn't going to look because of this height issue.

My best guess is the height makes you more able to lean more forcefully and keep your feet farther from the ground, but I'm not sure.

I was originally put off becuase of the height thing but thought i should take the plunge and make arrangements after. Im 5 foot 6" but am short in the leg - those extra 2" would be very welcome (in the leg departement).
I think manufacturers need to cotton onto the adjustable seat as it appears rivals honda have fitted them to the cbf600. Im sure others have done them in the past aswell but i think a few more £/$ should be spent developing a decent mechanism for a large plane of adjustment.
Cant be that hard surely?

Its only at slow speed i feel that the height is really an issue, manoeuvres/traffic, etc other than that id be fine. :)
