Hello all, I just got my first Gixxer from Chicago Crooks oops I mean Chicago Cycle. If I get a bolt on pipe on my 04 gixxer 600 am I going to run into tuning problems? All of my friends either have carb'd yamaha's or don't know what they're talking about. My questions are if I just get a bolt on do I need to get a power commander or won't that change any tuning, and are textile jackets good enough? I want to this one jacket for me and my girl but but the textile version is much cheaper and according to the salesguy I talked to "are just as good as leather." I've been told that just getting a bolt on wouldn't change enough to require a tuning. Any input would be great. Thanx guys.

You can always do a quick search on this forum for Textile.

To make a story short, leathers are best. They give you that "extra mile" if you ever do ashphalt surfing. There are great textiles jackets out there but ther not as abrasion resistent than leathers.

Some Textile however do have the added feature of being waterproof... Something to consider (although rain suits haren't expensive).

I was looking at textile but just looking at it doesn't seem to give asmuch protection as leather,

Got a sweat HJC jacket with matching colors of my bike for $100, when usual $385. They only had a few left and since some was comming around they wanted to get rid of them. If you look around specially in the summer you can find some sweat deals

Keep looking and you will find something of high quality on sale.

If you're just putting on a slip-on, you shouldn't need to tune it. If you put on a complete system, then you would have to worry about it. As for textile vs leather: Leather protects better, but I wear my textile or mesh jacket on the street for the comfort factor.

Thanx guys. The jacket I am looking at is the Alpinestars Dyno Jacket. I've got to buy 2, one for me and one for the little lady so I'm trying to go the cheaper route. If I buy 2 textile jackets it equals out to about the price of 1 leather

I'm just looking for a slip on exhaust. I'm really just going for the sound, the bike is too quite. Its hard enough to see the bike coming down the road, I want people to hear me too. I've let a couple of my buddies ride it and you can't hardly hear the thing until its 50 ft away. Puls I want it to sound as sweet as it looks.

Just FYI Chicago Cycle is a bunch of crooks. They won't sell you the bike for the price they advertise in the local cycle trader or give you the $300 in free acessories like they advertise.

BTW: GO PISTONS!!!!!

slip on = change in sound. nuff said
full system = change in weight, horsepower, and performance (means its better but does require proper tuning to get the full effect out of)

Here in Florida I find textiles to be more comfortable in the heat, but from experience have found leather to be far more comfortable when sliding down the street after having some bluehaired lady that can't quite see over the steering wheel make an abrupt left turn directly in front of you! Neither is gonna make you feel great about it, but one gives a bit more protection than the other.

thats right! i would go with a slip on for now. considering that you want the sound. and if you decide to go for better performance, spend the money and go with the whole kit.
