I just picked up a used rm125 dirt bike. It has been painted over and has no markings that I can find. Can anyone tell me how to figure out what the year is? The motor is off the bike and cylinder head is off of motor. Are there numbers stamped on the chasis or motor that could solve my mystery. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There are Serial numbers on the block of the motor. if your sitting on the bike, there on your right side, by your inner shin. Then give the dealership a call and they should be able to tell ya what year. (Of the motor at least) Hoep this helps ya out a little bit

I don't have pics right now but I have the serial # from the triple tree.
It is RM125-95987

Anyone translate this or is it a usesless #. Also the bottom end, head and psiston are all off this machine. I can't see any #s on the block. Are the numbers supposed to be on the head?
Thanks

This sucks. The motor was painted silver. The pad where I think the serial number was supposed to be is blank. All I have is the numbers stamped on the triple tree. I will take a picture of the frame and see if anyone can figure it out from the type of forks, swing arm, shock cylinders or anything like that.

My guess its stolen..lol.. Seriously.. The pad that is smooth, used to have your serial number STAMPED into it. Also the new paint sounds kinda fishy to me. So anyway, gettin some pics and posting them on here or bringing it to a dealership is probably the best way your gonna figure what year it is.

I got it for free in a package deal of three bikes :D . I strip and resell parts mostly from street bikes. Got this one with two damaged crotch rockets. I found a stamping on the underside of the gas tank that says 1979. Think that could be it :?:

I found the year of my bike from a Clymer repair manual, cross referencing the #'s {From fork area & motor} with the charts in the book. I found the book at the local library and after I was sure of the year, I bought my own off ebay (half.com).
