I have been closely looking at the GSX-R line up. I have heard that 600 is much easier to control but alot slower then the 100 and 750 and I do not only want control but i want power. Can you guys give me some advice on picking?

What kind of riding history do you have? I think I can make a pretty good guess at your experience/age......

Experience:

0-1yrs GS500, SV650, GSXF600

1-2yrs Any of the above and possibly some 600 SS

2-5yrs The 600 SS bikes and possibly starting into the 750's

-----------------------------------------------------------

I'll tell you right now, you don't need a 1000

Wish there was a 100 available, you don't have any experience do you?, you haven't had any training have you?.

Take MSF, get gear, get yourself a learning tool, somthing with about 50 hp for your first season, then we can talk control and power.

If you get a Gixxer (GSX-R) Go with the 600, its the least powerfull of the bunch. Beleive me, you CAN easily kill your self on this bike. Your prolly not ready for the kind of power it has, but if you start on it, but VERY careful it is not an easy bike to learn on.

Depends on what you consider slow with the 600. I got a 600. a little less torque but I can pop up the front wheel in first with ease.

Bring the first 3 gears up to 13krpm and your @ 100mph when you hit 4th.

Got my bike up to 150mph.

Not sure what you consider slow but maybe this will help ya. From what I have heard I think the 1000 max speed is around 180 and the 600 is around 160.

Correct me if I have bee miss lead but man what are you going to be doing that requires 180mph? 160 can still our run a cop cruiser if that is you thing to do.

HeH, there's a man who knowes who to use his bike :).

Just to let you guys know, it takes the gixxer 6 115 HP to get to 160, but the Gixxer 1K 175 HP to get to 180. Thats a difernece in HP of about 60 horse. but you only gain 20 MPH.

I've saw a turbo gixxer 1K with 295 HP, still only able to hit 205. 295 HP and a 25 mph gain! what causes this problem? Aerodynamics.

Modern cages can be much more aerodynamic than sport bikes. Take for example, the Saleen S7. It can do 230 MPH, with only 500 HP. How? becuase of its light weight (nearly 1 ton), good drive system, and most of all aerodynamics.

So if you want to beat your friend in a race, wear tight clothing, take off your mirrors, and get rid of the mud flap.

600

Go with the 600...that's tricky enough to start out on...I wouldn't consider anything more as a beginner if I were you...the gixxer 600 will have more than enough power for you for a WHILE, trust me...

What is wrong with you people ?

This is not Howtokillyourself.com, we do not recommend a gixxer, not even a baby 600 gixxer for a new rider.

When the average power of the average motorcycle on the road in north america is under 50hp, not a typo I did say under 50hp, why would you even think anybody needed 110hp+, let alone that this would be a good learning tool.

Of course I actually own and ride a motorcycle so I know what reality is not just some stats I read in a mag.

Yes...I agree with Bob. Please, please dont buy something that just looks good or you think it will impress anyone. Buy within your range. I just found out that someone I know was seriously injured. He went big and now he is paying for it.

I second the last two posts. A modern 600 is not a small bike by any means other than a few physically smaller dimensions. I ride vintage large bore superbikes (GS1000) with mods that push it over 90 BHP and that "little" 600 will beat me in every angle. Off the line, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile and in the corners. Better brakes too but all that said it is a hell of a lot of bike and for a new rider it would be so easy to underestimate how fast you just launched yourself when that car pulls out assuming that your doing the speed limit of 45 or less when in fact you just clipped over 137 and didn't realize it.

Trust me on this, the moderators and other experienced riders here are giving you good advice. Learn on a lower powered bike first! It will make you an all around better rider anyway man :)
