Thank you for taking the time to read my post and any responces will be nice, thank you.

i have a 1992 gsxr 600
17,000 miles on it
a year ago when i first got it it was great, then when i came up to 3000 miles i did my first oil change.........i put in fully synethic 10w 40
i then noticed i blue smoke coming out my exhuast pipe.......
my first reaction was to do another oil change........this time i put in non synthetic 20w 50 -thicker oil to stop it
it worked great for a while
now i have 2000 miles since i did that second oil change, but i have had to put 1 1/2 quarts in it to keep it full!!! my oil level is goin down, however i cant see any blue smoke......there is however a burning smell on ocassion that has been increasing.....there are no leaks i can see under the engine and i have never once seen oil in my garage!

can you give me any information or suggestions on what to do!!!

thank you

Look closely for a leak. The burning smell could be the oil hitting a hot area (exhaust pipe). Definitely check that the valve cover isn't leaking. If that doesn't work, my advice is to keep the oil level up and ride it. Fixing internal engine issues ain't cheap.

I dont know alot about the mechanics of an engine but that sounds like an oil leak. Like PitBull said your oil is probably hitting a hot spot and burning.

no leak.........i checkd it a long time ago and there are still no leaks.........
before i switchd to normal oil instead of synthetic i could see the oil in the exhaust.....now i cant and its goin thru more oil......... a good friend who is also a mechanic says that he thinks and is willing to put money on the fact that it is the valve guide seals................

but i hope he is wrong cuz that isnt cheap at all.........

thankx for the responce but there is not a spec of oil around or under the engine.........

Just make sure you look on top of the engine too. My old Kat leaked oil out the valve cover and it heated up and burned off there. It never dropped any on the ground but it still had a leak. It also burned quite a bit through internal engine issues but it ran well until I crashed it.

blue smoke

Even if you don't see any smoke to indicate oil in the combustion chamber, you could still have some considerable blow by. On my old 91 FZR, I had been told that I should look into an engine rebuild around 20K to 25K because you will probably have to replace the rings. I tore into the engine at 21K and the guy was right. All of my piston rings but one on each piston had worn to the point of allowing minute blow by. It was eating just enough oil to cause a refill every so often, but not show any smoke at slower speeds. I did see it around 90mph. The other thing to look at is a head gasket leak. Those two things will be your most considerable leak points. We recently had a friend's Katana that had an oil return o-ring that had gone bad. Good luck.
